One of the first places we tend to notice aging? Around the eyes.

For many middle-aged patients, excess upper eyelid skin can start to make the eyes look heavier, more tired, or older than they feel. That’s why one of the most common awake procedures Dr. Joe performs is an awake upper blepharoplasty, also known as upper eyelid surgery.

During an upper blepharoplasty, Dr. Joe removes excess skin and, when needed, addresses the underlying fat pads around the eyelid muscles to create a more refreshed appearance.

And yes — this procedure can often be performed while you’re awake.

Depending on the patient and treatment plan, some patients may receive medication to help them relax, while others are comfortable with local anesthetic alone. The goal is to keep the experience comfortable while avoiding general anesthesia when appropriate.

If your eyes are starting to look tired even when you’re not, an upper blepharoplasty may be one of the procedures worth asking about.

Interested in awake upper eyelid surgery in the Minneapolis–Twin Cities area? Schedule a consultation with Dr. Joe to find out if you’re a candidate.

Dr. Joe is proving that dedication doesn't stop when the scrubs come off.

This past weekend at the Graniteman Triathlon in Big Lake, Dr. Joe earned 2nd place after taking on the swim, bike, and run against an incredible field of athletes. The same discipline, precision, and commitment that drive him in the operating room are the same qualities that fuel him across the finish line.

Whether he's helping patients achieve their goals or pushing himself to new personal bests, excellence is never accidental—it comes from consistency, preparation, and a passion for continuous improvement.

Congratulations, Dr. Joe, on an incredible performance! We can't wait to see what's next.

A great evening out at Cedar Lake in Minneapolis for the Buck Moon Swim.

The Buck Moon is the name traditionally given to July’s full moon, named for the time of year when male deer begin growing their new antlers.

A few nights ago, I joined our group for an open-water swim under the Buck Moon. Great conditions, great company, and a good way to enjoy a Minnesota summer evening outside of the office.

Rhinoplasty vs. non-surgical rhinoplasty (also called a liquid rhinoplasty): Which one is right for you?

This is one of the most common questions Dr. Joe hears from patients considering nose enhancement.

In this video, Dr. Joe explains the key differences between a surgical rhinoplasty and a non-surgical (liquid) rhinoplasty so you can better understand which option fits your goals.

A surgical rhinoplasty is designed to permanently reshape the nose. It can address concerns such as:
• A dorsal hump (bump on the bridge)
• A drooping or bulbous nasal tip
• Crooked noses or asymmetry
• Breathing problems caused by structural issues
• Overall nose size and shape

A non-surgical rhinoplasty uses dermal filler to temporarily improve the appearance of the nose without surgery. It may be a great option for patients who want to:
• Camouflage a small hump
• Improve minor asymmetry
• Create a straighter-looking profile
• Add subtle definition to the bridge or tip
• See how a change might look before considering surgery

While a liquid rhinoplasty offers immediate results with little downtime, it cannot make the nose smaller, correct breathing issues, or provide permanent structural changes.

The best treatment depends on your anatomy, your goals, and whether you're looking for a temporary enhancement or a lasting transformation. During your consultation, Dr. Joe will evaluate your nose and recommend the option that's safest and most likely to achieve your desired outcome.

If you've been wondering whether you need rhinoplasty or a liquid rhinoplasty, this video breaks down the differences to help you make an informed decision.

Schedule a consultation with Dr. Joe to find out which approach is best for you.

6 weeks after rhinoplasty and the transformation is already taking shape.

These before-and-after photos show this patient's results from the front, quarter, and side views just six weeks after rhinoplasty performed by Dr. Joe Gryskiewicz. While swelling is still present at this stage of healing, you can already see improved facial balance, a more refined nasal profile, and natural-looking definition.

One of the most common questions patients ask is, "When will I see my final rhinoplasty results?" The answer is that healing is a gradual process. Most swelling continues to improve over the first year, with subtle refinements occurring even beyond that—especially in the nasal tip. At just six weeks, this patient is still early in the recovery process, making these improvements even more exciting.

Dr. Joe's philosophy is to create noses that complement your unique facial features rather than look "done." The goal is a result that looks balanced, refreshed, and natural from every angle.

If you're considering rhinoplasty and want to improve the appearance or function of your nose, scheduling a consultation is the first step toward creating a personalized treatment plan.

Does your nose tip drop when you smile? Here's why it happens—and how rhinoplasty can fix it.

If you've ever noticed that the tip of your nose points downward every time you smile, you're not imagining it. This is a common concern called nasal tip ptosis (tip drop), and it's something Dr. Joe can address during rhinoplasty with a septal extension graft.

A septal extension graft provides added support to the tip of the nose, helping it stay in its intended position instead of dipping downward with facial expressions. The result is a more balanced nasal profile and a tip that remains stable whether you're smiling, laughing, or talking.

In this video, Dr. Joe also shares a funny story from a recent patient who joked that after surgery she has to remind her husband to hold still before a kiss because her new nose is so well-supported that she doesn't want to accidentally "poke" him. While it's a lighthearted example, it highlights an important point: a septal extension graft creates a much firmer, more stable nasal tip than before surgery.

Every rhinoplasty is customized to the patient's anatomy and goals. If your nose changes significantly when you smile, this advanced technique may be an option to help create a natural-looking, long-lasting result.

Considering rhinoplasty? Schedule a consultation with Dr. Joe to learn which techniques are right for your unique facial features and aesthetic goals.

Choosing a plastic surgeon based on price alone can end up costing far more in the long run.

In this video, Dr. Joe explains why. Approximately one-third of his rhinoplasty practice consists of revision rhinoplasty procedures, with the majority of those patients coming from surgeries performed elsewhere. Revision rhinoplasty is one of the most technically challenging procedures in plastic surgery because the normal anatomy has already been altered, making correction significantly more complex—and often more expensive.

The same pattern holds true with breast surgery. Around one-third of Dr. Joe's breast surgery cases are revision procedures, helping patients correct issues from previous operations.
While cost is an important consideration, your decision should also be based on a surgeon's experience, training, before-and-after results, patient reviews, and specialization in the procedure you're considering. Spending more time researching your surgeon upfront may help you avoid the emotional, physical, and financial costs of revision surgery later.

Today's AI tools can also be a valuable part of your research process. Use them to compare credentials, understand different procedures, generate questions for your consultation, and learn what to look for—but always verify information with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
The best value isn't always the lowest price. It's choosing the right surgeon the first time.

If you're considering rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, breast revision surgery, or another cosmetic procedure, schedule a consultation with Dr. Joe to discuss your goals and create a personalized surgical plan.
