Neck feeling tight by the end of the day? 🤔

The muscles at the base of your skull can become tense from long hours at a desk, poor posture, stress, or repetitive movements. When these muscles tighten up, they may contribute to neck stiffness, discomfort, and even headaches.

A suboccipital release is a gentle, hands-on technique that can help relax these muscles and improve comfort and mobility.

While it may look simple, the right pressure and positioning can make all the difference.

Tight hips, back pain, or that tingling running down your leg? 😣

This simple piriformis release can help target all three.

The piriformis is a deep glute muscle that can get tight from sitting too long, training, or poor posture—and when it’s overactive, it can irritate nearby nerves too ⚡

How to do it:

1️⃣ Place a ball under one side of your buttock, aiming for the tender spot in your deep glute area 🎯
2️⃣ Relax your body onto the ball with both knees bent and feet flat on the floor or table.
3️⃣ Slowly let your knee fall outward, then bring it back in, staying within a comfortable range while keeping steady pressure on the ball 🔄

Small, controlled movements like this can help reduce tension and improve how your hips and low back feel 💆‍♂️

Try it slowly and notice how your body responds.

The correct answer was shoulder internal rotation. ✅

This type of joint mobilization is incredibly effective for improving how your shoulder moves and glides, especially when internal rotation feels stiff, pinched, or limited.

When this specific movement is restricted, you might notice it acting up during everyday activities or gym sessions like:
👋 Reaching behind your back to scratch a spot or grab your wallet.
🏋️ Lifting weights or hitting overhead movements at the gym.
⚾ Throwing a ball or reaching across your body.

Sometimes it is not just the muscles that need attention. The joint capsule itself might just need a little extra help to move and glide smoothly! 👀

Be honest… did you get this one right? Let us know below. 👇

Good care does not happen by accident.

It comes from PTs who keep learning, asking questions, and sharpening their skills so they can show up better for their patients every day.

This is a reminder that growth never really stops in this field, and that is a good thing.

Tag a PT who is always trying to level up 💙

If stretching, massage, and exercise aren’t helping, it might not be the muscle.

Sometimes the real issue is how a joint is moving, not just what the muscles around it are doing.

When a joint isn’t gliding properly, nearby muscles can start to feel tight, guarded, or restricted. So no matter how much you stretch or massage, the feeling keeps coming back.

This is where peripheral joint mobilization can help. It’s a hands-on technique used by physiotherapists to improve how a joint moves and responds, especially in areas like the shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, wrist, or elbow.

The goal isn’t just temporary relief. It’s to restore better joint mechanics so your stretching, strengthening, and exercise actually work the way they’re supposed to.

Because sometimes the problem isn’t tight muscles.

It’s a joint that isn’t moving well.

Have you ever had tightness that kept coming back no matter what you did for it?

When stretching stops working, it may be time for a different approach⚠️

Muscle Energy Technique uses gentle muscle contractions and guided movement to help improve mobility, reduce tension, and restore smoother movement patterns.

It is often used for stiffness and movement restrictions that keep coming back, even after stretching.

Have you ever tried hands on treatment like this before?

The goal is not just to move more. It is to move better where it actually matters 💯

Getting stronger in the clinic should help you carry groceries, climb stairs, play sports, and handle everyday life with more confidence. More mobility is great too, but control is what makes movement useful💙

Real progress shows up outside the clinic, not just during exercises.

What is one daily activity you want to move through more easily?🚶

Let’s talk about trigger points: what they are and how PTs can help! 👀

Trigger points are sensitive spots in your muscle tissue that often feel like tight, stubborn knots. They can cause a lot of soreness and can even radiate discomfort to nearby areas.

They usually develop when your muscles get overloaded. Things like poor posture, daily stress, repetitive movements, or underlying weakness can force certain muscles to work way harder than they are supposed to. 📉

Physiotherapy is about more than just a quick fix:

🎯 Reducing tension: Manual therapy and targeted stretching help calm the area down and relieve immediate soreness.

🔄 Fixing the pattern: It is not just about releasing the knot, it is about identifying and correcting the movement pattern behind it.

💪 Preventing the return: By addressing weakness or posture habits, we help stop your muscles from overcompensating in the future. 💚
