Tanning bed use is on the rise again. Here are some misconceptions I hear:

☀️ A tan makes my skin look healthier. ❌Actually a tan contributes to wrinkles, skin discoloration and aging.
☀️A base tan will protect me at the beach. ❌ A base tan is not protective and is actually a sign of DNA damage.
☀️ A tan will keep my levels of vitamin D In range. ❌ The best source of vitamin D is a good diet. Regular sunscreen use is not associated with vitamin d deficiency.

⚠️ Indoor tanning before age 35 increases melanoma risk by ~75%.
🧴 Skip the tanning bed—choose a sunless tan instead.

Happy National Doctors’ Day to the incredible physicians of Pittsburgh Skin 💙

Today we’re celebrating
✨ Dr. Lindsay Bacik
✨ Dr. Casey Barry
✨ Dr. Nicole Velez

Becoming a physician isn’t just a career—it’s a commitment that takes over a decade of training. From 4 years of college ➡️ 4 years of medical school ➡️ 3–7+ years of residency (and often additional fellowship training), physicians dedicate 11–15+ years to learning how to care for patients at the highest level.

That training includes thousands of hours of studying, hands-on patient care, numerous exams and continuous learning—long before they ever practice independently.

We are so proud to have a team that brings not only this level of expertise, but also compassion, dedication to learning, and a true commitment to patient-centered care every single day.

Thank you, Dr. Bacik, Dr. Barry, and Dr. Velez, for the care you provide to our patients and community—we are grateful for you today and every day 💙
