Freestone County now has a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
CERT is a nationally recognized volunteer program that trains everyday neighbors to help when disaster hits and professional responders are stretched thin. Members learn fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster medical operations, and how to work as a team so they can check on neighbors, give basic first aid, shut off utilities, and support local fire, EMS, and emergency management until more help arrives.
In a rural county like ours, that gap matters. Storms, flooding, tornadoes, and power outages can leave families on their own for hours. A trained CERT team does not replace first responders. It multiplies them, keeps more people safe, and helps the county recover faster.
If you want to serve your community, join the team. Contact Bruce Bricco at [email protected] if interested. Prepared neighbors make a stronger Freestone County.
