Anyone else guilty of saying they are going to post something over the next week and then forget because life is busy and social media isn’t a priority? No, just me?✋😂 🤪

Anywho, back to our introductions.

Meet our Physical Therapist Doug Bish. He is the co-founder and co-owner of Bish & Legacy Physical Therapy and Canine Rehabilitation. He has been a PT for 10 years and has spent those 10 years treating patients in the Butler area. Doug is a Certified Manual Therapist and a Canine Certified Rehabilitation Therapist and he has a Direct Access license.

In his spare time, Doug enjoys spending time with his family, coaching his kids soccer teams, hiking, camping, and playing with his dogs.

Don’t just think, I’m hurt so I need PT. Think about that back pain you have had for years that you think will just go away. What about that knee, hip or should pain? Do you have a surgeon saying you need a replacement? Why not give physical therapy a try to prevent or prolong the need of a replacement. These are just a small part of what Doug does daily to help people get back to living their best life.

If you are interested in scheduling with Doug, call our clinic at 724-841-0700.

Chronic pain is a major issue in the US and growing at a faster rate than other conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and depression. Here in the US, 24% of the population lives with chronic pain, 8.5% experiencing high-impact chronic pain that restricts daily actives (CDC data from 2023).

Chronic pain is defined as pain that is experienced on most days or every day in the past 3 months.

Chronic pain rates are higher in women, older adults, veterans, lower income or rural areas.

The most common reported areas of chronic pain are the back, hip, knee, or foot.

If you or someone you know suffer from chronic pain, please give our clinic a call at 724-841-0700. We want to help you get back to baseline.

Let's have more days with less pain and get back to what we love doing!!

Can you guess what the most common cause of back pain this time of year is caused by?

If you guessed shoveling snow you are right! Shoveling snow is one of the most common causes of winter back injuries — but a few simple body mechanic tips can make a big difference. With more pending snow at the end of the week, we wanted to provide some tips to protect your back when shoveling.

🧊 Warm up before you shovel
🧊 Bend at your hips and knees, not your back
🧊 Keep the shovel close to your body
🧊 Avoid twisting — step with your feet instead
🧊 Take breaks and pace yourself

If you feel back pain during or after shoveling, don’t ignore it. Physical therapy can help you recover safely and prevent it from turning into a bigger problem.

📞 Call 724-841-0700

Shovel smart. Move better. Stay pain-free this winter.

Postural syndrome and poor ergonomics can greatly affect how we live our day to day lives. Since the rise of electronics in the 90s and 2000s, postural related problems have become more prevalent. Neck, upper or lower back pain, shoulder pain, frequent headaches, and occasionally pain that travels down the arms or legs. Sometimes these problems can cause numbness and tingling and even mimic carpal tunnel syndrome. So, how do we fix this? We can start with making small but impactful adjustments in the workplace if you frequently work at a desk for long periods of time.
Chair height- make sure the feet rest gently on the ground and your hips and knees are both at 90 degrees. You also want to have good lumbar support. Make sure your chair has either good lumbar support or try using a lumbar roll.
You also want your elbow position to be at 90 degrees.
If you use a mouse, make sure your wrist is relaxed and not extended.
The height of the top of the computer screen should be at eye level. This helps ensure the head and neck are in the best position to limit some of those head, neck, and should issues.
Make these small adjustments at work and let us know if your symptoms subside. If not, it may be time to contact us for a more in-depth evaluation!
