When we think about longevity, we often picture the later decades of life. But lifelong health starts much earlier than that.

The habits children build today, through sleep, nourishment, movement, and connection, help shape their health for years to come. It’s not about chasing the latest health trend; it’s about creating a strong foundation that supports well-being throughout life.

Comment “GUIDE” for my top 10 longevity habits that help kids build a foundation for lifelong health.

Does your child completely melt down when it’s time to turn off a screen?

As a pediatrician with over 25 years of experience and a focus on integrative health and longevity, this is a conversation I have with families every day.

What you’re seeing isn’t always “bad behavior.” Screens are designed to be highly stimulating, activating dopamine pathways in the brain that can make it genuinely difficult for some children to stop. When that stimulation is suddenly removed, big emotions often follow.

Over time, excessive screen use can impact sleep, attention, emotional regulation, stress levels, social development, and even a child’s ability to tolerate boredom and frustration.

Screens aren’t inherently bad. It’s about creating healthy boundaries and making space for the things that help children thrive.

Have you noticed a difference in your child’s behavior when screen time is reduced? Share your experience below. 👇

To the Class of 2026 and the parents who helped guide them there, congratulations.

Today is more than a graduation. It is the celebration of years of hard work, resilience, growth, and countless moments both big and small that brought you to this milestone.

To the graduates: As a pediatrician, I have watched children grow into remarkable young adults. While grades, awards, and college acceptances are exciting, the qualities that matter most for lifelong success are curiosity, kindness, adaptability, purpose, and strong relationships. Take care of your health, prioritize sleep, keep moving, nourish your body, and protect your mental well-being. These daily habits are the foundation not only for success, but for longevity and a life well lived.

To the parents: This accomplishment belongs to you, too. You were the rides, the late-night homework helpers, the cheerleaders, the listeners, and the steady presence through every challenge. Your love and guidance helped build the foundation these young adults will carry with them for decades to come.

As you step into the future, remember that longevity isn’t simply about living longer, it’s about living well. Build a life filled with purpose, meaningful connections, learning, laughter, and health. The choices you make today become the person you are tomorrow.

The future is bright. Dream big, stay grounded, be kind, and never stop growing.

Congratulations, Class of 2026.

With Love,
Dr. Tanya Altmann, The Longevity Pediatrician

That heart attack at 50?

It didn’t start at 50… and it didn’t even start at 20.

As a pediatrician, I see this every day. The habits that shape long-term health, how we eat, sleep, move, and handle stress, are learned in childhood and carried for decades.

We’re talking about real food vs ultra-processed diets, sleep routines, daily movement, time outside, and emotional resilience. These aren’t just “good habits”… they are shaping your child’s future health, metabolism, and disease risk.

By the time we’re trying to fix things in our 40s and 50s, we’re often undoing years of patterns.

That’s why I focus on Longevity for Littles.

Not just extending life later, but building a healthier one from the very beginning.
If you want to raise a 100-year child, it starts with what you’re doing today.

Night terrors can be scary for parents, but they’re often a clue that something deeper may be affecting your child’s sleep.

Everything from nutrition and movement to stress, nutrient levels, and overall health can play a role in how well a child sleeps.

Night terrors can be common in childhood, especially during periods of overtiredness. But when they become frequent, intense, or disruptive, it’s worth taking a closer look to see if something else may be contributing.

The good news? Many of the underlying factors that affect sleep can be addressed. Supporting healthy sleep often starts with strengthening the foundations of overall health.

hope this helps!

Eczema can be frustrating for both parents and little ones, but it’s often more than just a skin issue.

Supporting a healthy skin barrier with thick moisturizers, avoiding harsh soaps and fragrances, and working with your pediatrician on treatment options can make a meaningful difference. But it’s also important to ask WHY the inflammation is happening in the first place.

From an integrative health perspective, factors like environmental triggers, allergies, nutrition, and gut health may all play a role. During infancy and early childhood, the skin, gut microbiome, and immune system are developing together, helping shape a child’s long-term health trajectory.

A longevity-focused approach for littles means looking beyond symptom management and supporting the foundations of lifelong wellness. By addressing both the outside and the inside, we can help promote healthier skin, stronger immune resilience, and overall well-being – not just for today, but for the years ahead.

I hope your little one is doing better, and hope this helps!

Most parents focus on milestones and growth charts… but there’s something deeper happening beneath the surface.

Your child’s biological age reflects how their body is actually functioning and it’s influenced early by sleep, nutrition, gut health, movement, and environment.

Two kids can be the same age but have very different long-term health trajectories.

The good news? Childhood is when the body is still being programmed.

Focus on the basics: sleep, whole foods, movement, time outside, and reducing toxins. These habits compound over time.

That’s what I call Longevity for Littles.

So many dads and caregivers are scared to hold a newborn… but it usually just comes down to not being shown how.

As a pediatrician, I’ve seen how this leaves moms doing everything and completely exhausted.

The truth is, confidence comes from practice. Holding, burping, swaddling, changing… these are learned skills.

The more all caregivers are involved early on, the better it is for baby and the whole family.

Send this to a new parent who needs to hear it!

Everyone is talking about longevity…but are we starting the conversation too late?

There is so much incredible information about improving health span in adulthood, but the truth is, lifelong health starts long before your 40s, 50s, or beyond!

As a pediatrician, I’ve spent over 25 years helping families understand that the foundations of health begin early. The way we support sleep, nutrition, movement, stress, immune health, and the gut microbiome in childhood can influence health for decades to come.

That’s why I believe in Longevity for Littles – shifting the focus from only extending life later to building a healthier, stronger foundation from the very beginning.

Five toddler behaviors that feel frustrating… but are actually completely normal 👇

If your toddler is saying “no” to everything, throwing food, having meltdowns over the wrong cup, demanding the same bedtime routine, or refusing to share… you are not doing anything wrong.

This is toddler development.

As a pediatrician and a mom, my goal is to help you understand what’s typical so you can respond with more confidence and a lot more patience. Because when you understand what’s happening in your toddler’s brain, everything starts to make a little more sense.

Toddlers are learning independence, testing boundaries, exploring cause and effect, and developing emotional regulation… all at the same time.

It may feel chaotic, but these behaviors are actually signs of healthy brain development and growth.

Send this to a mom whose toddler throws their dinner on the floor or melts down over the blue cup!
