ADEQUAN RECALL:
Horse and Dog owners should check their bottles.
Dearest Readers,
If your horse or dog has been receiving Adequan injections, you may want to check the lot number before the next dose.
American Regent Animal Health has announced a nationwide recall of four lots of Adequan after glass fibers were detected during quality testing of retained samples. The recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
☕️What products are affected?
Adequan® i.m. (Equine)
-Lot 24416
• Distributed: May 8, 2025
• Expiration: November 30, 2027
-Lot 25265P
• Distributed: January 22, 2026
Adequan Canine
Lot #3369
Lot #25011
☕️ Why the recall?
Testing found visible glass fiber material in retained samples from these lots.
According to the manufacturer and the FDA, injecting a product containing glass fibers or other particulate matter may cause:
Injection-site pain
Swelling
Inflammation
Infection
Abscess formation
☕️How does glass get into an injectable medication?
According to pharmaceutical manufacturing standards, glass contamination most commonly occurs if a vial chips or cracks during the filling or sealing process, or in rare cases if microscopic glass fibers separate from the inside of the vial over time (a process known as delamination). In this case, the contamination was discovered during routine quality testing of retained samples, prompting the nationwide recall as a precaution.
☕️ Have animals been injured?
At the time the recall was announced, no adverse events had been reported involving the recalled lots. The recall is precautionary after the issue was discovered during testing
☕️ What should owners do?
If you have one of the affected lot numbers:
Do not continue using it.
Contact your veterinarian before administering another dose.
If your horse or dog has already received injections from one of these lots and develops unusual swelling, pain, or other concerning symptoms, notify your veterinarian promptly.
