Don’t trust anyone that argues aesthetics don’t matter or that beauty is entirely subjective. They just want your town to accept less than you deserve.

FINAL chance to give to Vision Caldwell during the annual “Great Give” Patterson Family Foundation match is Monday, AUG 31!

Drop off at Impact Bank by noon to allow delivery by the deadline and to allow us to enhance all donations with a Patterson Family Foundation match 🙌. Isn’t this AMAZING!!🤩

Just 5 more days to go in the 2026 Legacy Great Give. While we are working to collectively raise $200,000 in August to leverage the Patterson Family Foundation match opportunity, this is also a chance to highlight some of the tremendous nonprofit organizations in our area!

You can support regional nonprofits from anywhere in the world—virtually (www.legacyregionalfoundation.org), by mail (PO Box 713, Winfield, KS 67156), or in person.

We asked each of the participating nonprofit organizations to answer just three questions.

Today we’re also lifting up Vision Caldwell. See their answers below.

What is one thing you wish donors knew about your nonprofit/charitable project?

Vision Caldwell Imagine Today. Invest in Tomorrow. A permanent endowment dedicated to strengthening Caldwell through housing, economic opportunity, downtown revitalization, education, and community development—creating a legacy for generations to come.

What is your favorite story sharing the impact of your nonprofit organization in our community?

The future is rural! Vision Caldwell is promoting livability and currently focused on improving our housing stock. Our favorite story is the creative ways we are making Caldwell a home for new residents. We watched a home (donated to Vision Caldwell) picked up and moved into Land Bank lots inside the city limits for a couple making their move to Caldwell from OKC. Other creative reuses: Our old Carnegie Library and 2 churches are now lovely remodeled homes! Another fun story of impact: We hosted a community "book club" discussion last year on the "13 Ways to Kill Your Community" and had a diverse and lively participation. We shared living rooms, laughs, food, bonding through our dedication to making our community better.

What does sustainability for your organization mean to you?

Community engagement to join the cause of investing in the future of Caldwell. We are growing, gaining ground, and inviting positive momentum to sustain the work of Vision Caldwell for the benefit of future generations.

“Rural is not a small version of a city or a suburb.”

That reminder from Tony P**a, Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution, during our recent 𝗨𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 webinar gets to the heart of why this conversation is so important.

Rural communities have distinct strengths, challenges, and opportunities, and public policy needs to reflect that reality. In the webinar, leaders from research, policy, and communities dig into what rural funding gaps mean and what place-based investment can unlock.

If you care about rural prosperity, you should watch the recording.

This year's GREAT GIVE is off and running!

The Patterson Family Foundation is offering $100,000 in match funds if we collectively raise $200,000 by August 31. Some are calling it "The Patterson Multiplier" because every $2 given to the community unlocks $1 from the Patterson Family Foundation. In case you missed it, following is the full media release:

Legacy Regional Community Foundation’s annual “Great Give” is back, presenting an incredible opportunity for local nonprofit organizations and the donors who champion them. Throughout the month of August, participating organizations are aiming to collectively raise $200,000 from the community to unlock a generous $100,000 matching gift from the Patterson Family Foundation.

This powerful 1:2 match means that community contributions combine for a massive regional impact. The 2026 Legacy’s “Great Give” leverages individual gifts in three distinct ways:
• Immediate Impact: Direct funds for the selected organization to utilize right now.
• Future Growth: Building and securing the organization’s long-term endowment.
• Community Opportunity: Enhancing an unrestricted endowment for greater regional grant awards.

"Donors have different passions and care about different things," said Yazmin Wood, Legacy CEO. "Legacy connects the donor with organizations taking on impactful work and where there are critical needs in our communities."

The tangible impact of this event can be seen in how participating organizations utilized their 2025 gifts. Past donations directly funded vital philanthropic work across the region, including:
• Community & Housing: Home construction, housing initiatives, and facility maintenance.
• Operational & Client Support: Sourcing groceries and vouchers for food pantry clients, and supporting general operating budgets to continue serving those in need.
• Youth & Education: Recruiting, screening, and matching adult mentors with youth on waitlists, and funding a $5,000 community scholarship budget.
• Arts, Culture & Environment: Tree care, tulip planting, and infrastructure upkeep for historic landmarks; supplementing community programming events; and constructing the outdoor Patio project at the Winfield Public Library.
• Infrastructure & Fundraising: Repairing hail damage on an outreach center roof and purchasing essential items to prepare for annual fundraising auctions.

This year, 19 local area organizations are participating in the match opportunity:
• Angels in the Attic
• Arkansas City Public Library
• Bartlett Arboretum
• Camp Horizon
• Cowley County Historical Society Museum
• Eagle Nest Inc.
• Friends of Cowley County Extension
• Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters serving Cowley & Sumner Counties
• Kiwanis Club of Winfield (KS) Inc.
• SCK Health Foundation
• South Kansas Symphony Inc.
