What Is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based form of psychotherapy that helps people identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior that may contribute to emotional distress. CBT is based on the understanding that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are closely connected. When negative or inaccurate thoughts become habitual, they can lead to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, avoidance, and other difficulties.
In CBT, individuals learn skills to recognize these patterns, challenge distorted thinking, develop healthier perspectives, and gradually face situations they may have been avoiding. CBT can be effective for a wide range of concerns, including depression, social anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, generalized anxiety, stress, and adjustment difficulties. Rather than focusing only on past experiences, CBT emphasizes practical strategies and coping skills that can be applied in everyday life. Many people find that CBT helps them feel more confident, resilient, and better equipped to manage life’s challenges
