Paul Munson

Paul Munson was welcomed into his heavenly home June 3, 2026. He was born on December 16, 1932, in San Pedro, California to Edith and Birger Munson of Sweden. Paul and siblings were raised in a God-fearing Christian home. He came to know the Lord through the Mission Covenant Church. He began working at a young age with his father at the family business, a Swedish bakery.

Paul was a creative entrepreneur. He was a wood pattern maker, founded restaurants (Villa Scandia Smorgasbord in Thousand Oaks California, an Orange Julius in California and one in Idaho), janitorial services, farming, raising sheep and black angus cattle, sold real estate, did carpet cleaning, and created the commercial laundry business, Valley Linen and Uniform, with his son. After that, he had a vending machine business and filled them all with the candies he loved.

He married Edie LaMay in 1958, happily married forty-eight years until her death in 2006. They moved the family from California to the country west of Caldwell in 1972. Together, they created a wonderful family: daughter, Starlyn; son, Steven (wife, Shannon); daughter, Sharese Brownfield (husband, Robert); and three grandchildren: Madeline Munson and twins, Ike Brownfield and Molly (Brownfield) Kurzymski (husband, Zygfried). After Edie’s passing, Paul found love again and married Nita Hisel in 2010.

Paul was a gifted singer and sang with the Audrey Mieir choir, singing many of her songs as a solo. He was a board member for Youth for Christ and one of the founders of Bethany Baptist Church in Thousand Oaks. In Idaho, starting in the late 70s early 80s, he organized Riggins Men’s Retreats where many men came to know the Lord. He would bring celebrities like Meadowlark Lemon of the Harlem Globetrotters, Steve Bartkowski quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, and many more.

In Paul’s later years he became the prayer warrior for the Deer Flat Quartet, the Liberty Quartet, plus a whole host of individuals. He was a carrier of the love of Jesus for these people.

Billy Lloyd Gibbens

Billy Lloyd Gibbens, 90, was welcomed home to the Lord on May 25, 2026, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Billy was born on October 4, 1935, to Herold and Lillian Gibbens and grew up on the family dairy farm, where he learned early the value of hard work, honesty, and a life rooted in family and faith.

He attended Knowlton Heights Elementary and graduated from Marsing High School in 1954. Billy went on to Boise Junior College, studying accounting before joining the National Guard training in San Antonio as a medic. After his training was complete, he also worked for the U.S. Forest Service. Both experiences gave him adventures he loved to recount—stories told with his trademark humor, warmth, and twinkling smile.

When his father passed, Billy returned home to run the family farm and dairy, as well as to help with some of his younger siblings at home. In the early summer of 1962, he met the love of his life, LaDonna K**k, while she was working at Marsing Drug. They married on October 7, 1962, and together built a life centered on hard work, faith, and the joy of raising their three daughters: Alicia, Amanda, and Alison.

Billy and LaDonna continued to operate the dairy while actively serving their community. Billy held positions in the Marsing School District, including the Marsing School Board and the Marsing Disaster Board. His commitment to service extended to Zion Lutheran Church in Nampa, where he participated on numerous boards and committees and formed lifelong friendships.

As the years went on, Billy and LaDonna treasured an Alaskan cruise, lively bus trips to the McCall Snow Carnival, and travels throughout the United States to be present for family weddings, graduations, and the many celebrations that brought their loved ones together. The family hayrides with in-flight snacks and beverages are a highlight that will continue to be cherished in years to come.

Family was the heart of Billy’s world. He was happiest with a grandbaby or great‑grandbaby in his arms—rocking, snuggling, or simply soaking in the joy of being surrounded by the generations he loved so dearly. Summers at the farm became treasured memories for his grandchildren and great‑grandchildren: learning to drive the tractor, feeding the cows, setting siphon tubes; allowing them to discover the simple magic of farm life under Grandpa’s patient guidance. Those adventures, big and small, became stories they will carry for a lifetime.

Having been blessed with a house full of girls, Billy also cherished time spent at deer hunting camp, where the camaraderie, the stories around the fire, and a well‑earned Snickers bar were all part of the tradition. And whether alone or with loved ones, Billy found joy in taking long drives down any random road, exploring the countryside with quiet curiosity and contentment.

A treasured family tradition was gathering everyone together to hear him read Uncle Remus stories—tales delivered with his warm voice, gentle humor, and the kind of timing only he could pull off. Billy also loved a good game of cribbage, and many family members learned the game at the kitchen table, where laughter and friendly competition were always welcome.

In October 2025, Billy celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by family, friends, and—fittingly—ice cream. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and a friend to all. Billy was known for his fun-loving spirit, his easy way of making friends, and his simple, memorable philosophies such as “Bread should be buttered twice,” and “Never say no to a slice of pie or ice cream.”

Billy’s legacy continues with his beloved wife, LaDonna; daughters Alicia (Scott) Schindele, Amanda (Robert) Whitney, and Alison (Andrew) Bicksler; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great‑grandchildren. His kindness, faith, and family devotion lives on in each of them. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

“For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.” —Romans 14:8

Beauty Tips by Audrey Hepburn

True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is in the caring she lovingly gives and the passion that she shows. And the beauty of a woman with passing years only grows.

For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anybody.

For lovely lips, speak words of kindness.

For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day.

For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone.

As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands: one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to the heart, the place where love resides.

For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.

- Sam Levenson

Charles Glenn Stout

Charles (“Chuck”) Glenn Stout, of Caldwell, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Riverview Rehabilitation in Boise, following complications from knee surgeries.

Chuck was born December 31, 1955, to Harold Glenn Stout and Donna Lee (Rockwell) Stout in Yakima, Washington. He was raised in the Marsing and Caldwell areas and graduated from Vallivue High School in 1974.

In October of 1971, Chuck met the love of his life, Lori DeMark. They married on April 24, 1976, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell, Idaho. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage, and Chuck’s devotion to Lori only deepened over time. He held her hand, sent her flowers, and reached for her when he needed support. Together they built a life centered on family, raising three children, and loving six grandchildren.

Chuck spent his career in construction and home design. After working alongside his father in home construction, he joined Irrigator’s Lumber Co. in 1977 as an outside salesman estimating whole-home packages. He later became co-owner and helped support residential construction throughout the Treasure Valley. He continued his work with Capital Lumber, Lloyd Lumber, Campbell’s Siding and Window, Canyon County Organization on Aging, and Sunpro in Nampa, where he worked until his passing.

His family loved driving through Caldwell and pointing out homes he designed to his grandchildren. He designed a cabin that he helped build with Lori’s family, which brought joy to generations of Stouts and DeMarks for more than forty years. And he never stopped building; in the year before his passing, Chuck designed an addition to his home, which he completed in the fall of 2025.

During his years in the building industry, Chuck participated as a member of the Western Building Materials Association (WBMA), serving as President of the Young Westerners Club and later President of the WBMA, as well as a member of its Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Chuck was proud of his years of service to the WBMA and always valued the longstanding friendships with the colleagues he met through the organization.

Chuck also tirelessly served his community. For nearly a decade, he served on the Caldwell School District Board of Trustees, including serving for many years as chairman of the board. He focused on strengthening and stabilizing the district while advocating for students and educators. Chuck also spent years as a board member of the Caldwell Foundation for Educational Opportunity. He championed the CFEO’s efforts to raise scholarship funds for students in the Caldwell School District and worked tirelessly to ensure that CFEO scholarships can support continued education for generations to come.

Chuck loved The Beatles. Chuck would gladly remind you that nothing in the world of arts and culture has ever come close to matching what his favorite band accomplished fifty years ago. Chuck loved the San Francisco 49ers because no one will ever hold a candle to Joe Montana. And Chuck loved classic westerns because they just don’t make movies like that anymore.

Chuck and Lori built their lives in Caldwell and believed heavily in the importance of family. Lori’s family became Chuck’s family even before they were married, and his love for Lori’s brothers, along with their kids, grandkids, and extended family, was deep and unconditional.

Chuck is survived by his wife Lori and his three children, Christopher (Lauren) Stout, Lisa (Joseph) Pennington, and Nicholas (Shealene) Stout; his six grandchildren, Theodore, Bowie, Oliver, Ellis, Barrett, and Alder; his brothers-in-law, Tony (Bonnie) DeMark, Craig (Becky) DeMark; and his nieces and nephews, Angie (Matt) Muniz, Michael (Kim) DeMark, Miller DeMark, Warren DeMark, and James Fowler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Donna Stout, Lori’s parents Vernon and Donna DeMark, and his sister Gwendolyn.

There will be a public viewing on Thursday, May 28th, from 5-8pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29th, at 10am at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Caldwell, followed by a graveside service at Canyon Hill Cemetery and lunch at the church. Chuck’s family would like to thank the team at Sunpro who helped Chuck navigate his medical leave, Dr. Shane Leavitt and his team at West Idaho Orthopedics and the care providers of West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell and Riverview Rehabilitation Center in Boise who worked so hard to help Chuck during his final months.

Ava Lee Lutteman

Ava Lee Darnielle was born at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise to Edna Lee and Arley Darneille of Gardena, Idaho. Her early childhood was spent at the Gardena post office and mercantile on the Payette River, which her family owned and operated and where they also lived.

Ava followed her older brother Aubrey on his trapline and learned to fish. She rode a horse to attend grades first through eighth in a one room schoolhouse, near Horseshoe Bend.

Her parents divorced and each remarried. Ava’s mother married Web Appel, a local aviator. He also owned Sulphur Creek Ranch, where they hosted hunters and fishermen. She spent several summers packing in from Whiskey Creek out of Landmark.

Later, they sold the ranch and purchased the Deadwood Mine to host miners, firefighters, fishers and hunters at the lodge.

She attended North Junior High in Boise and graduated from Boise High School in 1952. She learned shorthand, which led to a job for the Crippled Children's Service, touring the state for clinics to understand the cause of birth defects in Idaho.

She married Leo Sommer in 1954. To this marriage was born Timothy, Andrew, Samuel, and Christine. Leo and Ava divorced in 1967.

Ava married Otto Lutteman in 1969 and they had a daughter, Johanna.

Ava graduated with a Nursing degree from Boise State University in 1971. She worked at the Caldwell Memorial Hospital and then cared for psychiatric patients at the Idaho State Hospital in Nampa. She then made a significant contribution to public health in Idaho, working at the Capitol Building.

Later in her professional life, Ava traveled the state as a home health nurse. Her last home visit was in 2011, concluding a more than 40 year career in healthcare.

Ava pursued many interests in retirement, which she shared with her family. She picked up the fiddle and joined the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers. She enjoyed birding, kayaking and canoeing. She grew a large garden, and made bread and cheese from scratch. Her farm was home to a variety of animals, including turkeys, chickens, peacocks, doves, cats, dogs, sheep, raccoons, badgers, owls, and geese.

Ava wove rag rugs and tea towels. She also enjoyed knitting and crochet. She raised sheep and processed their wool into yarn. She loved telling stories from the back country, visiting with family, and strumming to music from her younger years while she rocked in her rocking chair.

Ava is preceded in death by her mother, Edna Lee Appel; father, Arley Darnielle; brother Aubrey Darnielle; husband, Otto Lutteman; daughter Mary Jane Lutteman.

She is survived by her children, Tim Sommer (Tamara Sloviaczek), Andy Sommer (Kathy), Sam Sommer (Shannon), Chris Wolfe (Jake), Johanna Younger (Cy), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
