Mildred "Millie" Roberts Phillips Smith

Mildred “Millie” Roberts Phillips Smith, 83, of Gordon County, entered the presence of her Savior on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at her home. A lifelong resident of the community, Millie was deeply loved by her family and all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Jerry Smith; her children, Danny Phillips and his wife Bridgett, Janice Allen and her husband Charlie; her stepchildren, Jerry Smith Jr. and wife Tyra, Blake Smith and his wife Amanda, and her sister, Betty Sisson. Millie was blessed with grandchildren—Stacey Campbell, her husband Robby, Jody Childers and his wife Jessica, Danielle Phillips, and Sage Phillips—and great‑grandchildren—Luke Campbell, Lawson Childers, Jada Campbell, and Lane Childers—as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Born on August 29, 1942, to the late John William and Nola Acree Roberts, Millie was also preceded in death by her first husband, Larry Phillips (2001), and siblings Gene Roberts, Margaret Green, James Roberts, Ruth Wickham, Bud Roberts, Bobby Roberts, and Terry Roberts.

Millie attended Sugar Valley, Resaca, and Belwood Schools in her youth. She worked for many years at Mannington Mills before retiring. Throughout her life, she was active in her faith and attended Cove Baptist Church, Sugar Valley Church of God, and Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Resaca. Some of her favorite things to do were shopping, going to the beach and spending quality time in the mountains. She was also a very important part of the Phillips Championship Rodeo by working the ticket gate each year.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Kenny Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers include Robert Oglesby, Cody Oglesby, David Tate, Robby Campbell, Luke Campbell, and Logan Viars, with Jordan Higgins serving as honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM.

Lauren Elizabeth Conaway, 35, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. She was born in Dalton, Georgia on February 21, 1991. She was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew Conaway; great-grandparents, Charles and Aurelia Duncan; uncle, Don Duncan; cousin, Channing Wallace.

Lauren is survived by her parents, Ashley and Karen Johnson; brother, Mathew Pope; sisters, Amber (Chris) Hancock, Chelsea (Robert) Rice; grandparents, Jim (Kay) Bell, Sharon Bembry; aunt, Amy Maher; uncle, Jon Cook; nephew, Aaron Luke Rice; special cousins, Todd and Marla Duncan, Tina Duncan; special caregivers, Melissa Munday and Baranda Goodson; many other cousins and loved ones also survive.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM from Chandler Cemetery with Rev. Mitch Phillips officiating. Pallbearers serving are Joel Hall, Todd Duncan, Aaron Luke Rice, and Brent Johnson.

Barbara Jean Ralston, 81, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away Monday, June 1, 2026. She was born in Calhoun, Georgia, on October 8, 1944, to the late Walter “Brownie” and Eulir Mae Fuller.

She is survived by her son, William Lee Ralston; daughters, Pamela Ralston Davis, Patricia A. Ralston; grandchildren, Tonia Davis, Jason Ralston, Matthew Bell, Xander Ralston; great-grandchildren, Wesley Gage Ralston, Joey B. Bell; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

Cynthia Denise (Shields) Easley, 71, of Dacula, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026. She was born on January 25, 1955, to the late Luther Franklin Shields and Urma Ruth Shields. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Daniel Easley.

Cynthia loved crafting, crocheting, and plastic canvas. She ran the Traditions Craft Show in Dalton, Georgia. She also enjoyed traveling and geocaching.

Cynthia is survived by her daughter, Mira Easley; brother, Tommy (Barbara) Shields; sister, Donna (Robert) Collins; grandchildren, Haliegh (Isaac) Wolfram and Carter Bookout; great-grand, Caspian Wolfram; niece, Kaylene Shields; nephews, Jacob Shields, Zachary Collins, and Ethan Collins; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

Evelyn Marie Ward Stevens, age 57, of Resaca, Georgia, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026.

She was born on August 12, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Lamar (Jenny) Ward and her late mother, Nadine Benson.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her sister, Felicia Franks and father-in-law, Bill Stevens.

Along with her father and stepmother, she is survived by her loving husband, Jim Stevens, of 39 years; daughters, Ashley (Tommy) Smith, Amanda (Wade) Stephenson, Errin White; sister, Lynn Cannon; a cousin that was like a sister, Melony Bennett; grandchildren, Eli Stephenson, Teagan Stephenson, Maddie Smith; mother-in-law, Bobbie Stevens; her fur babies, Gizmo and Rascal; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

To most she was known as MawMaw. She loved fiercely with her whole heart. She loved to go camping and kayaking with her family. She found the most joy in going to goodwill and every thrift store in 3 counties. She loved plants and flowers and working in her yard, which included dressing her porch goose Matilda.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM from the Chapel at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Jamey Hunt officiating. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 17, 1947, to the late Johnny McNeeley and Lilla Grace Fuller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy W. Lawhon and sister, Mary Ann Frost.

Alicia Morales Tercero, 87, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away of Monday, May 25, 2026. She was born in Managua, Nicaragua, on August 1, 1938, to the late Juan Jose Mejicano and Paula Morales. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Tercero.

She is survived by her sons, Juan Jose Tercero, Pedro Jose Tercero, Enrique Tercero; daughters, Brenda Siu, Arlen Tercero, Dora Tercero; brothers, William Mejicano, Oscar Mejicano, Napolion Mejicano, Tono Mejicano; sisters, Mariester Mejicano, Elsa Mejicano, Patricio Mejicano; grandchildren, Mauro Palma, Ludrick Siu, Arlen Tercero, Brenda Carolina, Flavia Tercero Calderon, Jeidy Alicia Tercero Calderon, Joseph Tercero, Doribel Tercero, Maciel Tercero, Yara Tercero, and Willian Tercero; numerous great-grandkids; nieces and nephews; and her cats that she loved dearly, Niko and Panda.

Alicia was a very caring person that loved her family and her two cats, Niko and Panda. She was very independent and even in her later years, she wanted to do things for herself. She enjoyed cooking and loved going to church at Iglesia Pentecostal Bethel de Calhoun.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Cesar Cardona officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.

Mrs. Susan Holloway Burnett, 70, of Calhoun departed her earthly life on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at her residence with her loving husband by her bedside.

Susan was born in Franklin, Georgia on September 7, 1955, daughter of the late Carl D. Holloway and Dorothy Aderholt Holloway. She was the last of eleven siblings.

Before retirement, she was employed by Gordon Transit as a driver, and over the years she was a caregiver to many.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Burnett; daughters, Jacqueline Westberry of Cedartown, GA, and Loie Davis of Euharlee, GA; son, Linus Westberry of Four Corners; grandchildren, James Pearson, Ashley Westberry, and Harley Shook; three great grandchildren, and other relatives.

Funeral arrangements for Susan Holloway Burnett are incomplete and will be announced later by Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home.

Debra Lynn Smith, 68, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026. She was born in on May 19, 1958, in Lebanon, Oregon, to the late Wayne Minnick and Arlene Reister Minnick.

She is survived by her children, Michael, Jason, and Stephanie; and her siblings, Randy, Lee, and Teresa.

To honor her wishes, her body was cremated and no formal service was held.
