Evidence overwhelmingly shows that most babies wont come on their due dates. I see so many moms who are overwhelmed by the constant nagging of people asking if their baby is here yet. Well guess what?! Uncle Ned and Aunt Suzie don't need to know specifics. Save yourself some stress and keep the date a mystery! Baby will come when the time is right.

Your birth is neither the time nor the place to let someone else decide what is or is not important to you.

This is why I encourage all of my clients to make a birth plan. Sure, it can be a helpful tool to share at the hospital when you're in labor, but its true value lies in the empowerment and knowledge that each family gains when they research their options and are confident in the decisions that they can make. If you're feeling stuck while creating a birth plan, reach out! Each of my birth clients get to work through my Birth Plan Workshop and not only do they walk away with a beautiful and concise document to share with whomever they’d like, but they also have the opportunity to work with me one-on-one, asking questions and learning about the topics that are most important to them!

This one goes out to everyone! Whether you're a patient or a provider, it's important that we train ourselves to recognize what is, and IS NOT informed consent.

When I was a new mom, I naively assumed that just because a practitioner was talking to me politely, that meant that they were offering me respectful care. Then I started to really think about the words that were being said… Many of their comments to me were statements. I wasn't being asked to give consent. My consent was being assumed. And are you ready for the real kicker?… assumed consent IS NOT respectful care. Its coercion!

So whether you're giving or receiving care, think about the words that are being used. Is there truly an option being offered or has the decision already been assumed?
