🧘 **Class Spotlight Thursday**

Some weeks call for stillness.

Some weeks call for movement.

If you've spent all week sitting at a desk, chasing deadlines, running kids from one activity to the next, or carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders... this class is for you.

**Evening Melt** is an energizing Vinyasa flow designed to help you shake off the week and reconnect with your body.

We'll build heat with sun salutations, move with the breath, challenge ourselves with a peak pose, and then slow everything back down with deep stretches and a well-earned savasana.

No one in class is watching you.
No one expects perfection.
Every single person in the room was new once.

A little yoga experience is helpful, but don't let that stop you if you're ready to move. Listen to your body, take breaks when you need them, and know that you're always welcome.

🎶 Great music.
💚 Good people.
✨ A chance to leave the week behind and head into Friday feeling lighter.

This year has been a tough one for my body and mind.

I endured 2 surgeries and radiation. I beat breast cancer. I turned 50. I graduated from college, passed my massage therapy boards, took additional training, and lost my mom. I've started offering massages alongside yoga classes at the studio.

I have had to accept that my body is not the same as it was in February. I have also had to remind folks that I do not accept my age or health as reasons why I have aches, pains, and the occasional WTH moments. LOL

I have been back in the studio for about five weeks, teaching my full yoga schedule, and for the past three weeks, I've been offering massage appointments. I am also in my 3rd week of weight training. I am not training for a race or a lifting competition. I am training to be able to play with my grandchildren. I am training to hike to the top of a mountain. I am training to hike to a waterfall. I am training for a healthy and active retirement should I decide to retire. 😉

I am training for life.

It feels sooooo stereotypical and cheesy to say this. However, I really feel this in my bones now. More than ever before. It isn't the number on the scales or the way I look in a photo. It's for healthy bones and strong muscles. It's for normal bloodwork and clear scans.

I lift weights. I do yoga. I eat good food. I receive massages and bodywork. I take time for myself to be creative. I surround myself with people who support me. ❤

I believe wholeheartedly that your body should fit your life, not the other way around. If your body allows you to move today, embrace it. Take the walk. Roll out the yoga mat. Hike to the waterfall. Dance in the kitchen. Sit quietly beneath a tree and take a deep breath.

None of us knows what tomorrow holds. But we can choose how we care for ourselves today.

Does every tight muscle need to be stretched?

Not necessarily.

Sometimes a muscle isn't *tight* because it's short.

Sometimes it's tight because it's trying to protect you.

Stress, poor sleep, old injuries, repetitive movements, and even anxiety can keep your nervous system on high alert. When that happens, your muscles may stay tense, not because they need a deeper stretch, but because your brain has decided they need extra protection.

That's why lasting relief often comes from more than stretching alone.

Massage, gentle movement, mindful breathing, and nervous system regulation can all help your body feel safe enough to let go of unnecessary tension.

Have you ever noticed your shoulders creeping toward your ears after a stressful day? That's your nervous system talking.

Understanding *why* your body feels the way it does is often the first step toward helping it feel better. 🌿

✨ The answer...

Those tools were used as part of a scar tissue treatment, but maybe not for the reason you think.

After an injury or surgery, scars can become overly sensitive. Even the touch of clothing or a light brush against the skin can feel uncomfortable because the nerves in the area have become extra reactive.

Using a variety of gentle textures, like a cotton round, an exfoliation mitt, or a stainless steel gua sha tool, can help gradually reintroduce different sensations to the nervous system. This process, called desensitization, encourages the brain to interpret touch as safe again.

Every scar tells a story, but it doesn't have to keep reminding you it's there.

Healing isn't just about how a scar looks. It's also about how it feels. 🩵

👀 Do you know what I'm doing today?

A cotton round.
An exfoliation mitt.
A stainless steel gua sha tool.

Any guesses?

Hint: It's all about helping the body move, heal, and feel its best. 💛

Drop your guess in the comments before I reveal the answer later today.

Your muscles don't work alone.

Fascia is a connective tissue that helps everything glide and move together. When it's healthy, movement feels smooth. When it's restricted, you may notice stiffness, pulling, or limited mobility. I use myofascial release techniques in every therapeutic and deep-tissue session to help relieve restrictions in your body.

Massage, Thai Bodywork, and mindful movement can all help support healthy tissue mobility.

Pain isn't the only signal your body gives you.

Sometimes it's stiffness.
Sometimes it's tension.
Sometimes it's simply feeling like you don't move as easily as you used to.

Routine care isn't just about getting out of pain. It's about helping your body stay healthy enough to avoid it whenever possible. I have found that adding monthly massages to my self-care routine has been the key to feeling better in my body.

Have you noticed any of these early warning signs?
