Mount Auburn Hospital Radiology Residency Program

Mount Auburn Hospital Radiology Residency Program The diagnostic radiology residency program at the Mount Auburn Hospital is a 4 year training program affiliated with Harvard Medical School.

Mount Auburn radiology is dedicated to the provision of outstanding patient care as well as to educate future radiologists as life-long learners. The radiology residency program at Mount Auburn Hospital was first established by Dr. Richard Schatzki when he became department chair in 1947. After World War II, Richard Schatzki left the Massachusetts General Hospital to become Chief of Radiology at t

he Mount Auburn Hospital where he set the standard of excellence in patient care and academic advancement. Dr. Schatzki was responsible for many fundamental contributions to radiology including the first descriptions of erosive gastritis, esophageal and gastric varices, tuberculosis of the adrenal glands, the imaging appearance of scleroderma as well as describing the lower esophageal ring—which is now known as the “Schatzki ring”. Dr. Schatzki retired from the practice of radiology in 1983 and died in 1992, yet the current members of MAH radiology strive each day to preserve his legacy. The radiology team at MAH uses state-of-the-art equipment to provide the highest quality care possible through diagnostic and image-guided therapeutic means. All radiology faculty are specialty fellowship trained and hold appointments at Harvard Medical School. Each year, the radiology residency graduates outstanding radiologists—many of whom pursue academic careers and become leaders in the field. Mount Auburn radiology faculty also teach radiology residents from Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical students, MIT Health Science and Technology students as well as medical students from around the world.

Huge congratulations to the legend himself, Dr. Ed Marianacci, on receiving the Leo Blacklow Teaching Award at Harvard Medical School. This is the highest teaching honor awarded at HMS, and our program has a few attendings who have also received the award. We are so lucky to have Ed, as he provides a personal MSK rotation to our second year residents, brings breakfast for the overnight resident whenever he reads them out, and so much more. Well deserved.

Second picture, Dr. Marianacci being presented the award by Dr. Michael J. Shortsleeve, previous award winner and fluoroscopy guru.

It’s always summer at MAH radiology, especially when the attendings take us out for tiki themed dinner and drinks!
