Camden shaped Maria. Now she's helping shape a healthier Camden.

As a medical assistant at Virtua Primary Care – Marlton, Maria Yambo is passionate about giving back to the community that helped define her. Through volunteer work and her own lived experiences, she strives to uplift others and make meaningful connections every day.

She’s also a dedicated advocate for Alzheimer’s and dementia awareness, a cause that became deeply personal after losing her father to dementia in 2024.

Helping our tiniest patients thrive also means supporting their biggest champions.

So, when our long-time partners at Ronald McDonald House Southern New Jersey wanted to redesign Virtua Voorhees Hospital’s NICU family room and two sleep rooms, we were overjoyed! Thanks to their vision and generous support from the Davis Enterprises Family Foundation, parents now have beautiful, thoughtfully designed spaces to step away and recharge while staying close to their little ones.

We’re proud to share a glimpse into these newly renovated spaces, which will serve as a resource to more than 900 families each year.

Talk about a record-breaking step count…

This month, more than 3,000 people gathered at Citizens Bank Park for the annual Take Steps Walk hosted by the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation — a record turnout dedicated to raising funds for research, advancing treatments, and supporting those living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

This year was especially meaningful as our very own Dr. Sanket Patel, director of the Virtua Crohn’s & Colitis Center, was recognized as the 2026 Healthcare Hero.

But one of the most powerful moments of the day wasn’t on stage. It was hearing directly from patients and families who stopped by our table to share stories of remission, hope, healing, and the impact compassionate care has had on their lives.

To everyone who walked, donated, shared their stories, cheered us on, and even threw pies at Dr. Patel: thank you for taking these steps with us.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Over the weekend, our colleagues planted 6,657 flags outside of Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Each flag honors a New Jerseyan who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

This Field of Honor serves as a visible reminder that their courage and valor will never be forgotten.
