See below for some helpful information on navigating conversations with a loved one who has dementia.

Watching a loved one struggle with dementia or Alzheimer’s can make conversations feel different — but meaningful connection is still possible. 💜

How to Talk with Someone with Dementia

✔️ Speak slowly and calmly
✔️ Use simple, clear sentences
✔️ Maintain eye contact and smile
✔️ Give them time to respond
✔️ Avoid correcting or arguing
✔️ Ask one question at a time
✔️ Focus on feelings, not just facts
✔️ Use gentle reassurance and encouragement

Sometimes the most important part of communication isn’t the words — it’s helping someone feel safe, heard, and loved. A kind tone, patience, and a comforting touch can make all the difference.

Remember:
🧠 They may forget what you said…
💜 But they will often remember how you made them feel.

At DCNR, we believe every resident deserves dignity, compassion, and meaningful connection each day.

We are SOOO GRATEFUL for our nurses!!!

Nurses are the backbone of everything that happens at Hospice and we have some of the best. ❤️

Our nurses are knowledgeable. They care for the body. They know about symptoms, medications and nutrition. They know how to assess a patient even when that patient may be sleeping or combative.

Our nurses are relational and caring. They are empathetic and good listeners. They enter into the care-giving environment—building trust and forming relationships with the patient and family.

Our nurses work as a team. They communicate with each other and work collaboratively with other disciplines. They are often the ones who call in spiritual care, social work or bereavement.

Our nurses are meticulous and organized. Everything they do has to be recorded—for accountability and so the next person visiting the patient knows what’s going on.

Our nurses are present. If they hear that a patient is struggling or close to the end of life, they’ll be there--in all kinds of weather, any time of the day or night.

Hospice nurses watch the decline of patients. They work with the funeral homes. They get close to a patient and their family and then they say goodbye— over and over.

Thank a hospice nurse. This is a hard job. And our nurses are amazing at it. ❤️

Congrats to our RN Molly on completing her first year with Comfort Care Hospice!

Molly developed a passion for end of life care while working as an Oncology nurse in St. Joe and after working at CRMC for four years as a Med Surg/ICU nurse she has found a home in the hospice care department. Molly is a dedicated professional who cares deeply for her patients and is really good at connecting with them. She has a warm personality and is great at listening and meeting the needs of the patient and their families. She loves getting to know new people and providing comfort not only to the patients but also to their families.

Molly is from Maysville, MO and is married to Greg. They have a big beautiful blended family and you’ll often find Molly playing sports with her boys Kasey and Re*****on. She loves going on trips with her husband and spending time reading at the lake.

Congrats to our RN BSN Administrator Adrienne on 18 years with Comfort Care Hospice!

Adrienne was first introduced to hospice as a volunteer during nursing school. She says, “It’s an honor and a privilege to be a hospice nurse.” Adrienne likes knowing that we’re making a difference in the lives of patients and families during vulnerable times, providing them the comfort and emotional support that they need. Adrienne genuinely cares about patients, their families, and the quality of care we provide. She is really good at seeing the big picture and connecting each patient to the resources they need.

Adrienne grew up in Cameron and is deeply rooted and invested in the community. In addition to her duties at hospice, Adrienne has been coaching the Cameron Dragon Cheerleaders for 9 years now. She is married to Brian and they have two sons, Dawson and Zander. You’ll often find the whole family at the ball fields.
