July is UV safety month. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a routine part of our environment, yet its impact on skin health is often underestimated. Because UV exposure is closely linked to the development of skin cancer, adopting consistent UV safety practices is one of the most effective steps individuals can take to support long term wellness. Apply sunscreen daily, and amplify its effectiveness with a comprehensive approach, including:

• Seeking shade during peak UV hours: UV radiation is typically strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Choosing shaded areas during these times can significantly reduce exposure.

• Wearing protective clothing: Long sleeved garments, wide brimmed hats, and UV blocking sunglasses offer reliable physical protection. Many modern fabrics are designed to be lightweight while providing high Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) ratings.

• Avoiding tanning beds: Indoor tanning devices emit concentrated UV radiation. Avoiding them is a straightforward way to reduce unnecessary exposure.

• Monitoring the UV index: The UV Index provides a daily estimate of UV intensity. A rating of 3 or higher indicates that protective measures are advisable, even on overcast days.
