Sometimes words just aren't enough. And that's okay.

A hug is one of the most powerful ways we express love, comfort, and care, no words required. And science backs it up. Research shows that hugging releases feel-good chemicals in our bodies that can actually help ease emotional pain and reduce stress.

In the hardest moments of grief, a long embrace an hold you together in ways that words simply cannot.

You don't have to have the right thing to say. Just show up. Hold them tight. That's everything.

What if instead of an urn on a shelf, you could hold your loved one in the palm of your hand?

That's the idea behind Parting Stone, a company turning cremated remains into smooth, natural stones that families can keep, share, and carry with them. It's a completely different way to think about remembrance.

What if thinking about death could help you live better?

In a recent TIME article, Dr. Shoshana Ungerleider, founder of the nonprofit End Well, recommends ending each day with a simple 2-minute "mortality check-in."

The idea?

We avoid talking about mortality because it feels overwhelming — but approaching it in small, contained moments makes it more accessible. By remembering that we're also dying by virtue of living, we can better distinguish what feels urgent from what's actually important.

It's a three-step practice:
1️⃣Acknowledge that your time is finite
2️⃣Think about what matters most today
3️⃣Set one small intention for how you'll live that out

Before bed, ask yourself: "If today were truly my last, what would I want to have done differently — or done more of?"

At Darling Fischer Funeral Home, we believe that honoring life begins with reflecting on it. Conversations about mortality aren't morbid — they're meaningful.

Sometimes when life feels heavy, the last thing we want to hear is "look on the bright side."

But there's a difference between forcing positivity and gently, quietly noticing. Noticing the cup of coffee that tasted just right this morning. The friend who always picks up the phone.

Grief has a way of narrowing our world. Pulling the shades down and making it hard to see past the weight of what we're carrying. And we're not here to tell you that a worksheet is going to fix that. It won't.

But sometimes the tiniest shift in focus can crack a 🪟 window open. Let a little air in. Remind you that there are still people in your corner, still things ahead worth showing up for, still small moments of warmth woven into even the hardest days.

This simple noticing worksheet by The Self Hug asks a few questions to help you notice what's still good, who still has your back, and what still feels like light even when everything else feels dim.

It won't take away the hard stuff. But it might remind you that the hard stuff isn't the whole story.

We'd love to know: what is one small thing, however tiny, that brought you even a moment of comfort or joy this week?
