Present Moments from the Pen of Dr. Denise 3-12-2017
Inspired by Reed Tracy, CEO Hay House
Each week I will write my thoughts and inspiration to each and every family in my practice. They are my thoughts and hopes for you, your child and your family.
After each day and week, I reflect on the children in my practice and how much I see them grow and learn. Parents come in with hopes and dreams of their children fitting into society and learning. They would be happy for social gains, a child that responded to their name, and told them how they feel.
When I take a child’s history and observe them, I never know how they will progress. I cannot predict the future for a child, but I always have a feeling. Sometimes I am bold and do tell that parents that I think the child will be okay. They with treatment will do well.
With my knowledge of treating children diagnosed with autism and other neurological disorders, I watch and observe. I take into account all the little behaviors of the child. I think and think! I prepare a care plan with steps for the parents to go home with. This plan is filled with a page or two of ideas to implement or things they can do for their child.
Last week four children came back for their second visit. Was I ever surprised! Each child had made outstanding progress. The word outstanding means above average progress. Progress in my practice is measured month to month.
My heart was filled with joy. I listened to parents tell me about the progress of their child. What an amazing week it was!
I will tell you about one little girl, who turned around! She brought smiles to her parents’ faces. Although her dad was still very worried about his daughter, mom and dad both thought their child had made 80 percent progress in a matter of 30 days. She began to talk and was suddenly using 3 word sentences. She had eye contact! She could understand her parents and was engaged in conversation!
The progress was apparent in the first moment of our visit. She ran down the hall to greet me, her arms were wide open for a hug. She was full of enthusiasm. The little 2 year old, smiled the biggest smile. She was full of love, joy, and shared her thoughts with the world.
Each child I saw this week had what I call a special little miracle. They all participated in conversation, and in life. They had drastic changes with in the past month. This week was so joyful, inspiring, and life changing for each child and each family! The children inspired me!
My message for each family is the message from this little story I have shared. Don’t give up. There is love with in each child. We together have to find the key and unlock the door to their world and let them peek into our world. There is a key and it does fit into the lock. The key is implementing all the suggestions with love.
With many blessings, Dr. Denise
