Did you know it's National Breastfeeding Week AND National Breastfeeding Month? To celebrate and spread awareness, Thompson's Birthing Center teamed up with Nutrition Services to host a mocktail station today. With ginger ale, lemonade, a variety of juices, and flavored syrups, they served up free mocktails including The Classic "Mama" Mocktail, a Milk Bar Mule, a Golden Hour Glow, and a Latch-on Lemonade. Appreciative associates and volunteers were all smiles! Geneva mom Grace Kennedy, her husband Daniel, and their baby Eden returned to our Birthing Center today to be on hand when nurse Susan McCarthy was presented with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Grace nominated Susan for the award, in appreciation for her compassion and support when Eden was born last month. “During the hardest moments of my labor, when I felt overwhelmed, scared, and unsure if I could do it, she stayed right by my side. She comforted me in such a personal and meaningful way – gently holding my face, grounding me, and reminding me I was strong,” Grace said. Susan, who has been nominated for the award many times, said receiving it is especially meaningful to her because as a professor of nursing at Finger Lakes Community College, she incorporated the DAISY program and had conversations with the widow of the man in whose memory the DAISY Foundation was established, J. Patrick Barnes. Congratulations, Susan! https://urmc.info/2oE

Each May, Thompson Health honors its associates who are celebrating milestone service anniversaries by holding a recognition dinner. This year's was held at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, with over 200 people attending, and the hospital's Birthing Center had four nurses marking a combined 95 years of service! With Director of Obstetrical Nursing KyShara Penns sharing a little bit about each one of them from the podium, left to right were Amanda DiWispeleare (15 years), Emily Wallace (20 years), Courtney Phillips (25 years), and Susan McCarthy (35 years). The folks marking five years are not called up to the front by their director for a presentation, but also honored during the dinner were three of our OB/GYN associates, each with 5 years: Tessa Conaway, Kim Deely, and Kylah Herbst. Congratulations, everyone! Thank you for everything you do for our patients!!!
