You are not alone. Support group for those impacted by su***de.

You are not alone. Support group for those impacted by su***de.

The aftermath of su***de is something many people do not fully talk about.

It leaves behind grief, shock, guilt, unanswered questions, emotional exhaustion, and a pain that can deeply change a person. Even strong and highly functional people can find themselves emotionally overwhelmed, wondering if life will ever feel the same again.

Losing someone to su***de can bring silent struggles that are difficult to explain to others. Some people replay memories repeatedly. Some blame themselves. Some struggle with anxiety, depression, sleepless nights, emotional numbness, or the feeling of being disconnected from the world around them.

Grief after su***de loss is not something people simply “move on” from. Healing takes time, support, compassion, and safe spaces where people can speak honestly without fear of judgment.

Our monthly Survivors of Su***de Loss Support Group was created to remind people that they do not have to carry this grief alone. 💙

If you are grieving the loss of someone to su***de, know that your pain is valid, your emotions matter, and there are people willing to listen and walk this journey with you. 🫂

2. A WORKING phone number, with a functioning voicemail, that you check REGULARLY
3. An email address that you check REGULARLY, if you don’t have a working phone number
4. The best time of day to contact you
*Please note - the CCPD Lobby will NOT accept application interview requests. If you come to the CCPD Lobby to request an application interview, you will be directed to make your request via the SWAC Hotline at 719-792-5000 or to the SWAC Inbox at [email protected].
Messages will be returned by our SWAC Committee Chair via her private cell phone, which has a Virginia 804 Area Code. If you do not answer she will leave a message, and will most likely send you a text as well. During this call, you will be scheduled for an in person application interview.
Application interviews will take place from November 11th - 14th & the 18th, between the hours of 10AM – 6PM. You MUST be able to attend IN PERSON, without your children present (if possible), as this will be an in-depth interview (30-45 minutes) with a SWAC committee member.
Participation in the SWAC program is subject to approval by the SWAC committee, and access is restricted due to annual funding. Family approval is primarily based upon the financial need of the family. The purpose of the applicant interview is to ensure that the SWAC Committee has a complete picture of every applicant’s financial situation, as well as other hardships they may be experiencing, so that the committee may prioritize the needs of all applicants. Please be prepared to discuss your family’s finances, along with any other hardships your family may be facing, during this interview. You will be given a list of supporting documentation that you will be required to bring, during the phone call to schedule your appointment.
Please note that the SWAC Committee values your privacy, and treats all information disclosed during the interview process as strictly confidential. Your information will only be used by the SWAC committee to facilitate the approval process. No information gathered by SWAC will be used for Law Enforcement purposes, other than in special circumstances, to ensure the safety of program recipients.
If your family is in need this holiday season, and you believe that you meet the requirements for participation (below), please call 719-792-5000 or email [email protected], to request an application interview.
If your family isn’t in need, but you know of a family who may be, please encourage them to contact us, or you may share their information with us, and we’ll reach out to them directly.
If you are not in need, but would like to make a donation to this worthy cause, please reach out via the SWAC hotline or inbox, OR you can use the QR code embedded on our page.
Please note the following requirements for participation:
1. Only a parent or legal guardian may complete the in-person application (attendance is required).
2. Children must be residents of Canon City.
OR
3. Children must actively attend, and be in good standing, in Cañon City Public Schools (Fremont RE-1 School District).
4. Children are not receiving Christmas assistance from any other charitable organization, i.e. Angel Tree, Toys For Tots, etc.
Please do not leave multiple messages, as this can delay the process. Please do not contact the main CCPD phone numbers, as staff are unable to provide information regarding the SWAC committee, and / or the SWAC application process.
Once the SWAC Committee has reviewed all applications, applicants will be notified of acceptance or denial, by phone or email, no later than December 1, 2025.
If SWAC is unable to assist your family this year, we will provide you with a list of other resources that you may turn to for holiday assistance.
If you have any questions regarding CCPD’s Shop With A Cop program, please direct them to:
[email protected]
We look forward to helping Canon City’s kids in need, and hope that everyone has a Very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season!
