For two years now, I've been asking Cañon City to allow our licensed medical dispensaries to deliver to homebound patients. Every time, I'm told the same thing: the city needs to pass an ordinance. Two years later, nothing has happened.
Not everyone has a caregiver. Not everyone can afford one. And even people who do have a caregiver, that caregiver might be at work exactly when they're needed. Not everyone has reliable access to a vehicle, maybe it's too far to walk, maybe the car's broken down. And honestly, sometimes people are just busy, they've got things going on at home, and a trip across town for medicine they're legally entitled to shouldn't be this hard.
Here's what a lot of people don't realize. Delivery isn't some loophole that lets product slip through unwatched. Every single delivery still runs through METRC, Colorado's mandatory tracking system, with a manifest for every transfer, plus real-time GPS tracking on the vehicle. If anything, a delivery is more tracked than someone walking into the store. The city loses zero oversight, and keeps every dollar of sales tax.
If you or someone you know has ever needed this and couldn't get it, show up to a Cañon City Council meeting and say so. This only changes if enough of us speak up.
