October 14 is Stem Cell Awareness Day, a chance to look at where regenerative medicine stands today, where the science is headed, and what former athletes should know before considering treatment.

For NFL Alumni managing the long-term effects of injuries, surgeries, joint pain, and years of competition, regenerative medicine can sound promising. But promising does not mean proven.

Before considering a stem cell or other cell-based therapy:*
* Know what treatment is actually being offered
* Ask what evidence supports it
* Understand whether it is FDA-approved or part of an authorized clinical trial
* Know the potential risks and alternatives
* Watch for clinics making sweeping promises or relying on testimonials instead of evidence

The goal is not to chase the next big thing. It is to understand the science well enough to ask the right questions.

Breast cancer is not only a women’s health issue.

The American Cancer Society estimates there will be about 2,670 new breast cancer cases in men in 2026. That is why this conversation matters for everyone.

Knowing your family history, paying attention to changes in your body, and speaking with a healthcare provider can make a real difference.

Awareness saves lives. Men get it too.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and awareness starts with knowledge.

About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer during her lifetime. Early detection matters, and knowing your risk can help you take action sooner.

For the NFL Alumni family, this is about showing up for the mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, partners, friends, and loved ones who have always shown up for us.

Know your risk. Start the conversation. Make the appointment.

October is a big month on the health calendar, and it hits close to home in more ways than one. Breast Cancer Awareness Month asks us to look out for the women who've stood by NFL Alumni for decades — and reminds us that a few men from our own family have faced this disease too.

Stem Cell Awareness Day puts a spotlight on regenerative medicine, one of the fastest-growing fields in sports medicine, guided in part by NFLAH's own Regenerative Medicine and Cell Therapy Advisory Committee.

And National Prescription Drug Take Back Day gives every one of us a simple way to clear out the medicine cabinet safely.

As always, this newsletter is built for you — NFL Alumni, your families, and everyone who supports your health long after the final whistle.

Inside this issue:
* Know Your Risk: Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the NFL Family
* NFL Family Members Who've Faced Breast Cancer
* Reaching the Women in Alumni's Lives
* Resources for Breast Cancer Screening & Support
* Life Is a Sport: Stem Cell Awareness Day and NFLAH's Regenerative Medicine Work
* Inside the Huddle: Three Voices in Regenerative Medicine
* Know Before You Go: The Right to Try Act
* Clean Out the Cabinet: National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

As kickoff week returns and Sunday football takes over the calendar again, it's a fitting moment to talk about a part of the game plan that never got enough credit during your playing days: recovery. This month's feature dives into the science of sleep — why it matters more, not less, after football, and what former players can do about it. We're also marking Healthy Aging Month with a simple challenge, and sharing a few small habits to help you reset your routine as fall settles in.

As always, this newsletter is built for you — NFL Alumni, your families, and everyone who supports your health long after the final whistle.

Inside this issue:
* Recovery Never Retires – The Hidden Power of Sleep After Football
* Sleep & Recovery: By the Numbers (infographic)
* NFL Legends Share a Common Challenge
* Inside the Huddle with Dr. Audrey Wells
* Could You Have Sleep Apnea? A Self-Assessment
