Hello everyone
So what is HRT and BIHRT?
Continuing on about hormone replacement therapy… a hormone is something that is produced in one body part and exerts its effects on another body part. It does this by binding onto specific receptors on the target organs. This is very much Akin to a key that is very specific for that lock. Once it binds to the lock, then very specific actions are initiated
Estrogen is not one particular compound, but it’s a general name given to compounds that can bind to estrogen receptors in our bodies.
The one estrogen that is produced in our body from the ovaries is estradiol, and it is the most potent of all the estrogens.
There are estrogen type compounds present in birth control pills as well that can combine to these receptors, but they are not estradiol.
In other words, they are also estrogens but they are not the bioidentical form of estrogen that is produced in our bodies. This is what is meant by bioidentical hormones. So Estradiol can be manufactured in a pharmacy by a pharmacist.
In other words, many different compounds can bind to estrogen receptors in our
body and initiate estrogenic effects. However, the effects can vary, depending upon how potent that binding is to those estrogen receptors for that particular compound.
The important point to remember is that just because the Pharmacist produces bioidentical hormones in the pharmacy does not make that estradiol any less harmful.
We shall explore these topics in greater detail in the near future…
