parenting with PMDD requires a little more than deep breathing and positive affirmations, babe. 😭

i’m talking sensory accommodations, easier routines, backup childcare plans, and knowing when to tap somebody else in…*if you’re privileged enough to have that support*

as a parent and trauma therapist navigating PMDD, i’ve learned that the goal isn’t to become endlessly patient. it’s to build systems that don’t require endless patience in the first place.

save this for your next luteal phase 💗

36, chronically ill, and loved as HELL. 💗🪩

spent my birthday weekend in a gnarly lil pain flare, but thanks to some intentional accommodations and some really wonderful humans, this gal still got to have herself a damn good birthday. 🥹

and to my fellow chronically ill babes, i wanna talk about that.

how many times have we planned something special around the imaginary version of ourselves who magically won’t be in pain that day? or pushed ourselves past our limits because we didn’t wanna disappoint anyone?

whewww. been there.

but what if we stopped treating our needs like inconveniences? what if we let people help? what if we planned for the bodies we actually have instead of the ones we’re constantly hoping will cooperate?

and perhaps most importantly, what if the people around us understood that accessibility is part of loving us well?

you deserve to celebrate, be celebrated, and experience joy without having to earn it through suffering.

and if your body says absolutely the f**k NOT to the festivities? you’re no less deserving of all that love.

anyway, accommodating ourselves is pretty f**king chic, babes. 💋♎️💗

As a therapist with PMDD, I have a LOT of tools.

As a person with PMDD, sometimes I still want to fight my uterus.

Both things can be true.

These are some of the ways I try to make my luteal phase a little less miserable without expecting myself to magically regulate my way out of a medical condition.

And please know that if your symptoms are significantly disrupting your life, you deserve actual treatment and support. Not just another list of coping skills.

Anyway, save this for when your hormones start talking s**t. 💗

every day is Indigenous Peoples’ Day over here, but today we’re being extra loud about it. 🪶❤️

as a Cherokee descendant, a mother, and a trauma therapist, I think a lot about what it means to honor the people who came before us while being accountable to the generations coming after us.

our ancestors deserve more than remembrance. our communities deserve more than praise for surviving. and our children deserve a future where Indigenous existence isn’t treated like a historical fun fact.

we are still here. still loving, laughing, creating, resisting, reconnecting, and raising little people who know they belong to the earth, not the other way around.

and if my little corner of the internet can make mental health education more accessible, challenge colonial bulls**t, and occasionally remind everyone that Columbus was a deeply embarrassing man, then I’m happy to be of service. 😘

happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day, relatives. today and every damn day.

p.s. if you appreciate the free education and occasional public dragging of colonizers, my Buy Me a Coffee is linked in my bio. no pressure, just gratitude. 🫶🏽
