Ever feel like an impulse is about to pull you under? 🌊
Let’s talk about Urge Surfing. It’s a mindfulness powerhouse for managing everything from doom-scrolling to snap reactions. Instead of fighting the urge or giving in, you treat the feeling like a wave in the ocean that you’re riding until it reaches the shore.
Research shows most urges peak and fade within 20 to 30 minutes if we don’t “feed” them. Think of it like a bell curve: it builds intensity, hits a crest, and then inevitably subsides. You don't have to act; you just have to wait.
To start surfing, notice where the urge lives in your body: maybe a tight chest or restless energy. Breathe into that space and observe it without judgment. Remember, you aren't the urge; you're the person watching it pass by.
It is totally normal to feel overwhelmed by a sudden impulse, but learning to sit through that temporary discomfort is where your real strength lives. You've got this!
