On October 5, 2026, G.A. Carmichael Family Health Center, in partnership with Mississippi Valley State University, held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house of the Mississippi Valley State University – G.A. Carmichael Community-Student Health Center. Conveniently located on the MVSU campus, the center will provide accessible healthcare services to students, faculty, staff, and members of the surrounding community, creating another convenient point of care in the Mississippi Delta. Services will include: Primary and preventive care, sick visits and chronic disease management, women’s health and Title X services, STI and HIV testing, PrEP services, behavioral and mental health services, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) services, health education, wellness support, and referrals. “This partnership allows us to bring healthcare directly to where people learn, live, and work,” said Dr. James L. Coleman Jr., CEO of G.A. Carmichael Family Health Center. “We are excited to serve the MVSU campus while also opening our doors to the surrounding community.” The new center reflects G.A. Carmichael’s continued commitment to expanding access to comprehensive healthcare and building partnerships that bring care closer to the people who need it.

A signed consent form can help bring care closer to your child!

At G.A. Carmichael Family Health Center, we’re always finding ways to meet students where they are, including at school! Our school-based health services offer convenient access to medical and dental care, but parent or guardian consent is an essential first step.

A special shout-out to our creative and dedicated School-Based Coordinator, Sylvia Whitehead who developed an innovative way to encourage students to bring their consent forms home for parents to review, sign, and return. These moments from McNeal Elementary capture her commitment to connecting students with care, and celebrating the children for returning consent forms!

Thank you, McNeal Elementary, for being an excellent partner in supporting student health and helping us connect with families.
