ASK Safety is proud to highlight Chris Sheppard, a 30-year veteran of the United States Coast Guard with extensive experience in maritime operations, leadership, safety, and readiness. He also holds a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential as Master, 100 Gross Tons, Near Coastal Waters.

Throughout his distinguished Coast Guard career, Chris served across patrol boats, buoy tenders, construction tenders, and a National Security Cutter, with 13 years of sea service and more than 17 years as an accomplished small-boat operator. His operational background includes law enforcement, search and rescue, counter-drug detection, search and seizure, fisheries enforcement, aids to navigation, investigations, and complex missions across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, the Gulf of America, and the challenging waters of the Columbia River.

Chris has also held senior leadership roles as Commanding Officer, Officer in Charge, and Executive Chief Petty Officer in both afloat and ashore assignments.

Today, Chris brings his deep maritime expertise, operational leadership, and commitment to training excellence to ASK Safety — helping prepare crews and maritime professionals to operate safely, decisively, and in full compliance with U.S. and international standards.

STCW Personal Survival Techniques certification prepared two Air/Sea Heritage Foundation participants to board the research vessel Fugro Brasilis.

ASK Safety is proud to have supported the mission connected to the discovery of Pan Am Flight 526A, Clipper Endeavor by delivering the required STCW Personal Survival Techniques (PST) training for Russ Matthews and Idee Matthews-Montijo before they boarded Fugro Brasilis.

This important discovery was led by Air/Sea Heritage Foundation, in partnership with Deep Sea Vision, an Eco Minerals Company, and Discovery Channel’s Expedition Unknown.

The tragic legacy of Clipper Endeavor helped shape the safety procedures we know today. It’s a powerful reminder that safety starts before departure — and that proper training matters.

We’re honored to have played a supporting role in preparing mission participants for this historic effort.

ASK Safety is proud to spotlight Scott Konrad, a valued member of our instructor team since 2019.

Scott brings decades of U.S. Coast Guard experience to ASK Safety, including leadership roles as Chief Boatswain’s Mate, Tactical Coxswain, Boarding Officer, and maritime operations trainer. He also holds a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential as Master, 100 Gross Tons.

Starting his career aboard a 378' High Endurance Cutter to Station Tybee, including Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral with multiple cutter assignments in between, Scott’s career has been built on Search and Rescue, safety, mission readiness, crew member development training, and hands-on maritime leadership.

We are proud to have Scott as part of the ASK Safety team — helping prepare mariners with the experience, confidence, and real-world knowledge they need.

ASK Safety is proud to highlight Christopher Spurlock, a Florida native and retired United States Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer with 22 years of service in maritime operations, leadership, and safety. He also holds a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential as Master, 100 Gross Tons.

Throughout his distinguished Coast Guard career, Christopher served across shipboard and small-boat assignments, specializing in Search and Rescue, Counter-Drug Operations, and Coastal Security missions. His real-world experience has taken him across the globe, where he worked alongside diverse maritime teams and helped train personnel in challenging operational environments.

Today, Christopher brings that same commitment, leadership, and hands-on knowledge to ASK Safety – helping prepare maritime professionals with practical training that supports safer crews, stronger operations, and better outcomes.

Our SASH e-learning course is developed in accordance with IMO Resolution MSC.560(108) and provides seafarers with the knowledge they need to help create a safe, respectful, and inclusive working environment on board.

By January 1, 2031, all seafarers must complete maritime training addressing SASH (Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment).
