Cataract Myth vs. Fact

❌ Myth: Cataracts grow on the surface of your eye.

✅ Fact: Cataracts develop inside the eye when the natural lens becomes cloudy.

❌ Myth: Only very elderly people get cataracts.

✅ Fact: While cataracts are most common with age, they can develop earlier due to factors such as UV exposure, smoking, diabetes, certain medications, or previous eye injuries.

❌ Myth: Cataracts can be prevented completely.

✅ Fact: While aging-related cataracts can't always be prevented, protecting your eyes from UV light and maintaining a healthy lifestyle may help reduce your risk.

June is Cataract Awareness Month

Did you know that a cataract is simply the clouding of the eye's natural lens? Cataracts often develop gradually, causing symptoms such as:

✅ Blurry or cloudy vision
✅ Increased glare from headlights or sunlight
✅ Difficulty seeing at night
✅ Colors appearing faded or yellowed
✅ Frequent changes in glasses prescription

Because cataracts typically develop slowly, many people don't realize how much their vision has changed until an eye exam reveals the difference.

Regular comprehensive eye examinations are one of the best ways to monitor your eye health and vision as you age.

📞 Contact Regional Eyecare Center at 573-335-3937 to schedule your next eye exam.

Pollen counts are going to be high AGAIN today… and your eyes might be feeling it.

If you’re noticing itchy, watery, or red eyes, seasonal allergies could be the culprit. Pollen levels, especially tree pollens like oak, have been high for weeks and many of our patients are feeling the effects.

A few tips to reduce allergy eye symptoms:

✅Avoid rubbing your eyes as this can make symptoms worse.
✅Wash your hands and face after being outdoors.
✅Keep your windows closed and air conditioning running on high pollen days.
✅Change air filters regularly.
✅Ask your doctor about allergy medications for additional relief.

Sometimes allergies symptoms can mimic other eye conditions, so if your eyes remain uncomfortable, we’re here to help you feel and see your best this allergy season.

😎 Sunglasses Are More Than a Fashion Statement 😎

When shopping for sunglasses, darker lenses do NOT always mean better protection.

The most important thing to look for is:
✅ 100% UVA and UVB protection

Quality UV protection helps shield your eyes from harmful rays that can contribute to long-term vision problems.

And don’t forget the kids! Children’s eyes are especially sensitive to UV exposure because they often spend more time outdoors.

Need help choosing the right sunglasses? We’d be happy to help at Regional Eyecare Center!

Check your eyedrops to see if any you have are included in this recall over sterility issues. Any eyedrops containing tetrahydrozoline or naphazoline (most of the "gets the red out" eyedrops} wouldn't be on our recommended list anyway.
