Missouri Veterans Home - Cape Girardeau The Missouri Veterans Home - Cape Girardeau is one of seven state Veterans homes in Missouri dedicated to providing skilled nursing care to Veterans

Serving Veterans in southeast Missouri, the Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau opened its doors in 1990. Since the beginning, we have prided ourselves in giving high-quality, compassionate care to Veterans requiring 24-hour skilled nursing health care services. You choose your design and a portion of the proceeds goes to one of three area nonprofits, including our Foundation! Congratulations to CNA Teichowry Thomas (TT) for being our July Employee of the Month! TT is a team player. She is super helpful to everyone and always goes out of her way to do anything our Veterans need. We love her up beat attitude and how she always has a smile on her face. Thank you TT for taking such good care of our Veterans!

One of the things we really love is connecting with other nonprofits and community support groups in Southeast Missouri. We are so thankful for our partnership with Greater St. Louis Area Scouting. Not only do they do collection drives throughout the year for us and help us at Veterans Home Freedom Fest, they also send Eagle Scouts our way to help us with projects we may need. This year Kaden with Troop 5 chose us for his Eagle Scout project and made us two new fishing pole holders for storing and taking our poles out to the pond. Our current holders were not the best quality and poles kept falling off and getting tangled every time we moved them. Now we have high quality storage and couldn't be happier! Thank you Kaden and all the Scouts who give back to our community.

We had the honor of celebrating a HUGE milestone with one of our Veterans on Saturday. Elsworth is one of the sweetest men alive. He always has a smile and a hug and loves to visit with you over coffee. He is a mean bingo player and skilled at catching whoppers on our fishing trips. We are so grateful his family asked us to celebrate with them as he turned a century old. Happy Birthday Elsworth!

Summer means grilling up some delicious treats outside in our new pavilion, enjoying good friends and good food. Margaret's Back Porch Grilling is one of our Veterans favorite activities from May-September. Almost everyone comes out for a burger, brat, or hot dog and all our tables are full of Veterans joking around and chowing down. We can't wait for the next one!

Every year our home participates in different Missouri Health Care Association contests and activities including their Long Term Care Pageant. This year we made double history by entering one of our male Veterans who won KING of District 5! He was the very first gentlemen ever to enter for District 5 and the first ever to win too! Congratulations to Marine and extraordinary catfish catcher, Harold on his win! Harold now moves on to the state final in Branson at the MHCA 78th Annual Conference and Trade Show on August 23rd. Good luck Harold, bring home the BIG win!
