Grounding & Rooting through Vyana & Apana Vayu
As summer begins to soften into late summer, nature reminds us that growth isn't only about reaching outward—it also depends on having strong roots.
In yoga, the five vayus (pancha vayus) describe the different ways prana moves throughout the body. This month we'll explore two of them: Vyana Vayu, the outward-moving flow of prana that connects and integrates the whole body, and Apana Vayu, the downward-moving flow that grounds, stabilizes, and supports us.
Rather than thinking of these as opposite forces, we'll discover how they support one another. When we feel rooted, we can expand with greater ease. When we expand with awareness, we remain connected to our foundation.
Through our practice, we'll explore how grounding creates freedom and how integration allows us to move through life.
Week 1 – Ground Before You Grow
We begin with Apana Vayu, the grounding current of prana. Through steady standing postures and a breath that settles downward, we'll discover how a stable foundation allows both body and mind to soften with confidence.
Week 2 – Expand with Stability
Our focus then shifts to Vyana Vayu, the expansive current that radiates prana throughout the body. As our breath moves from the center outward and our postures become more spacious, we'll experience how true expansion grows from a place of support.
Week 3 – Rooted to Reach
In our final week, we'll bring Apana and Vyana Vayu together through a practice of rooting and reaching. As we integrate both currents of prana, we'll discover that a steady foundation creates freedom, ease, and presence in every movement.
I look forward to exploring yoga together and discovering how grounding and expansion can support us both on and off the mat.

This week we begin with Ground Before You Grow, exploring Apana Vayu—the grounding current of prana. We’ll begin on our backs, settling into the breath and feeling the support of the earth beneath us. From there, we’ll slowly warm the body, move into steady standing postures like trikonasana (triangle) which will invite us to root through the feet as we create space through the body for the prana to flow. Near the end of practice brings us back toward the earth to soften and release with Supta Matsyendrasana (supine twist). We’ll finish where we began—on the mat, returning to stillness and rest. A practice of rooting.
C-ya on the mat. Let your heart shine.

July: Practicing Connection
In honor of International Day of Friendship (July 30)
Patañjali's Yoga Sutra 1.33:
Maitrī • Karuṇā • Muditā • Upekṣā

Yoga may begin on our own mat, yet its practice extends far beyond it. The Sanskrit word yoga means "to yoke" or "to unite." While we often think about connecting breath to movement or body to mind, yoga also invites us to explore how we relate to one another and the world around us.

Throughout July, we'll explore these four qualities through movement, pranayama, and quiet reflection—not to become someone different, but to deepen our connection with ourselves, our practice, our friendships, and our community.

💚 Week 1: Trust & Support (Maitrī – Friendliness)
💚 Week 2: Flexibility & Forgiveness (Karuṇā – Compassion)
💚 Week 3: Shared Joy (Muditā – Joy)
💚 Week 4: Acceptance & Safe Space (Upekṣā – Equanimity)

I hope you'll join us this month as we practice together.
✨ Let your heart shine.

June: Open

Life has a way of making us close up.

We carry stress in our shoulders. We rush from one thing to the next. We hold our breath without realizing it. We become focused on what needs to get done and forget to make space for ourselves.

This month, we practice something simple: opening.

Opening the body through movement.
Opening the breath through awareness.
Opening the heart through kindness.
Opening ourselves to new possibilities.

Our yoga practice offers an opportunity to pause, listen, and reconnect. Not by forcing ourselves deeper into a posture, but by creating enough space to notice what is already there. Patanjali reminds us in Yoga Sutra 2.46, Sthira Sukham Asanam—that our practice should embody both steadiness and ease. As we open, we learn to soften where we can, strengthen where we need to, and honor the balance between effort and allowing.

Whether you come to class feeling energized, exhausted, joyful, or carrying the weight of the world, you are welcome here.

I will be away for one week in June on a Blessing family vacation. During that time, I invite you to continue the practice of openness in your own way. Take a walk, sit quietly with your breath, spend time in nature, connect with someone you love, or simply notice the moments that help you feel a little more open to yourself and the world around you.

This month, may we remain open—to our breath, to ourselves, and to whatever each day brings.

Let your heart shine.

May — a beautiful month.
Flowers blooming, graduations approaching, and summer just around the corner.

As I begin my anniversary vacation, a reminder that the last week of April is canceled, with a couple additional dates—May 4 & 7—as I finish this time away.

Because of the busyness that May brings, there will be no Sunday classes this month. Please check back in June.

Breathe. Balance. Be.
will continue Tuesdays at 7:00 PM—with two special nights: May 19 & 26.
These sessions will be 45 minutes as we begin preparing for the summer heat. We will continue exploring Nadi Shodhana while gently introducing a few cooling pranayama practices to support the season. Promo-BBB

And finally—ConGRADulations to our seniors.
May you continue making the world a better place—honoring the earth, humanity, and your own soul.

Thank you, Wildflower Community, for practicing with me.

Let your heart shine. -Blessing Strusz

🔆🔆🤍

Hugs do more than comfort— they help regulate the nervous system, release tension, and even increase oxytocin (the “connection” hormone).

They remind us we are not alone.

And sometimes, that’s everything.

Friendship hugs ....... Let your heart shine.
