Breastfeeding is hard work. Itâs really hard work.
Itâs sleepless nights, itâs cluster feeding 24/7, itâs not leaving the house because youâre insecure about feeding in public, itâs judgement, itâs pain, its emotional, itâs learning, itâs missing out, itâs feeling like your body no longer belongs to you, itâs waking up every two hours (at most), itâs lonely, itâs changing your anatomy, itâs choosing someone else over yourself every single day, itâs overcoming fear and uncertainty, itâs guilt, itâs isolating - itâs really fu***ng hard.
Anyone who says otherwise is lying. Anyone who says itâs easy is lying. Anyone who has ever suggested that it is anything less than really hard is lying.
And despite all that - youâre doing it. Youâre doing it every single day. Youâre choosing your baby over yourself every single day. Youâre saying âIâm okay with all of this because Iâm putting my baby first - Iâm okay with sacrificing my body, my needs and my wants because Iâm choosing her. And Iâm going to always choose herâ. Youâre fu***ng incredible. We are fu***ng incredible - every single one of us.
Because no matter how much we evolve as humans, we are the exception that remains unchangeable. We scream, roar and cry out as we grit our teeth and bring forth life into this world. And then we continue to sustain that life with the same body that has just created, carried and birthed her. We encounter pain that no man could fathom and we welcome it with open arms.
Because today and every day, we are choosing them.
We are fu***ng phenomenal. You are fu***ng phenomenal.
I made this baby. And for 11 entire months I have provided for her. Me. I did that.
YOU DID THAT, TOO. Do not let anyone ever discourage you or make you feel unimportant, because you are invaluable.
I just had to say it. Because some days I feel defeated and I forget how phenomenal we mothers are. We arenât told that enough. We have to be the reminder each of us need and deserve. We have to lift each other up.
Thank you mama: Adrienne Weierke
