Recovery isn’t just about stopping substance use, it’s about building a life that supports you every day. Here are three simple strategies you can incorporate into your routine to help maintain your recovery:
Stay active: Movement can be a powerful tool in recovery. Physical activity - whether it’s hiking, walking with a friend, or doing yoga - can help reduce stress, improve mood, and even decrease cravings. The key is finding something you enjoy so it becomes something you look forward to, not something you have to do.
Find a creative outlet: Recovery often comes with new time to fill and new emotions to navigate. Creative activities like writing, music, art, or journaling can help you process feelings, regulate stress, and stay grounded. Expressive Art Therapy, in particular, focuses on using creativity as a way to explore emotions and experiences that can be hard to put into words.
Practice gratitude: Taking a few minutes everyday to reflect on what you’re grateful for can shift your mindset and improve your overall well-being. Building this habit can strengthen your mental health, deepen relationships, and help you stay focused on what’s going well.
Recovery isn’t about perfection: it’s about progress, support, and finding what works for you.
