Understanding the nutrition label is important.
One part I find that most people don't pay much attention to is the serving size. I usually use BBQ sauce (which is pretty high in sodium and added sugar) a serving is typically 2 TABLESPOONS (measured with an actual tablespoon). That is really not that much. I think most people eat twice that.
Another part that is important is added sugar... try to eliminate that.
For good protein balance drop the last number from the calories, if that equals the protein it's a good protein source. (This example is NOT a good protein source)
LOOK AT THE INGREDIENTS if there are a lot of ingredients you can't pronounce and looks like a science experiment don't eat it (you are the science experiment)
Try to eat a many whole foods as possible. No ingredient list needed, or minimal ingredients. Beverages count here too.
I always say if it comes in a box, a bag, a package or wrapper it's probably best to avoid it. (This is documented in my charts!)
