Today we're looking back at our National Skilled Nursing Care Week celebration! This year's theme, "Moments in Bloom," inspired beautiful flowers, colorful decorations, and fun activities throughout our Home.

Most importantly, it gave us the opportunity to celebrate our incredible staff whose compassion, dedication, and teamwork make a difference in the lives of the Veterans and families we serve every day.

Thank you to each member of our team for everything you do. We appreciate you—not just during Skilled Nursing Care Week, but all year long. ❤️💙

🎉 It's and we're reminising about the Father's Day fun we shared with our residents back in June!

From friendly games to refreshing root beer floats, it was an afternoon full of laughter, smiles, and a little healthy competition. Congratulations to the winners, who received fun "Dad" shirts to celebrate the occasion!

🌸🎉 Congratulations, Rosemary! 🎉🌸

We recently gathered for a special watch party to celebrate resident Rosemary Hede as she received a Lifetime Achievement Award through the Maine Health Care Association Remember ME program.

Because the recognition ceremony was held in Augusta, we tuned in to the live stream and celebrated alongside Rosemary right here at Home.

At 101 years young, Rosemary's life has been defined by service, learning, and generosity. During World War II, she supported the war effort through transcription work on a military base while her husband served in the U.S. Navy. She later devoted countless hours creating Braille books to help others access education, volunteered in her community, helped preserve the history of New Sweden and Stockholm, and spent decades supporting her church, local organizations, and families throughout Aroostook County.

Even today, Rosemary remains active, engaged, and an inspiration to those around her. Her lifetime of compassion, volunteerism, and dedication to others makes her truly deserving of this honor.

Please join us in congratulating Rosemary on this well-earned recognition! 💜👏

Rosemary Hede, Maine Veterans' Homes, Caribou

Rosemary Spix Hede will celebrate her 101st birthday this year, and her story reflects more than a century of kindness, generosity, and quiet leadership.

Rosemary proudly supported World War II, living and working on a military base where she performed transcription work, contributing in important ways to the operations supporting our nation’s service members. Her husband served in the United States Navy, and Rosemary has been a devoted member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.

Education and learning are central to Rosemary’s life. She could read before she started school and was known for her exceptional abilities from a young age. Later in life, Rosemary learned how to create Braille books for the blind, focusing especially on math books that were desperately needed, spending countless hours producing these materials so others could have access to education and independence. Rosemary also volunteered weekly at the Adult Multiple Alternative Center in Caribou, reading to adults who were unable to read on their own. Rosemary also played a significant role in preserving local history. She helped compile historical summaries for New Sweden and Stockholm, Maine, was one of the first members of the Stockholm Historical Society, assisted in establishing the museum, and typed the entire book on Stockholm’s history. She also helped organize and support the annual Midsommar celebration in New Sweden for many years.

Family and community were always priorities. She was active in the PTA throughout her children’s school years and sang in her church choir for 50 years. In the early 2000s, she made more than 100 bonnets for newborns at Cary Medical Center so every baby could go home wrapped in love. Today, Rosemary remains active at MVH-Caribou, nurtures her faith by going to church with friends. Rosemary’s life is a powerful example of service, compassion, and devotion to others.

Happy CNA Week! 💙

This week, we proudly celebrate our Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Certified Residential Medication Aides (CRMAs), and Personal Support Specialists (PSSs) who provide compassionate care and support to the Veterans we are honored to serve.

The National Association of Health Care Assistants (NAHCA) has chosen the theme "We're Unbelievable" for CNA Week 2026, and we couldn't agree more.

Pictured here are just a few of the incredible caregivers who help make our Home feel like home. Whether they're assisting with daily care, helping residents stay connected with loved ones, sharing meaningful conversations, supporting activities, or simply brightening someone's day with a smile, they make a lasting difference in the lives of our residents.

The photos capture what makes this work so special—the relationships. The trust, companionship, laughter, and genuine connections our caregivers build with residents are at the heart of everything we do.

Please join us in thanking our CNAs, CRMAs, and PSSs for their hard work, compassion, and dedication to Caring for Those Who Served. We appreciate all that you do! 🎉💙

💙 Happy National Nurses Day and National Nurses Week! 💙

This year’s theme, The Power of Nurses, is demonstrated in our Home every day.

Their work goes beyond clinical care. They build relationships, honor military service, and help our residents live with dignity and purpose.

If you’ve had a positive experience with our nursing team, we’d love to hear it in the comments. Your words mean a lot to them! 💬💌
