Sunday thoughts… reflecting on the week that was and prepping for the one ahead. Organizing client sessions, carpools, my own workouts, and meal prepping. Stephen is often gone a few nights a week 👨‍✈️✈️ So it’s just me making sure things run smoothly. 🤞 no child or dogs are sick, no car breaks down, water heater, washing machine break, or the fire alarm goes off middle of the night (real things that always seem to happen when he is gone🤦‍♀️) But guess what else happens when all goes wrong?!, I still workout and move my body. Can only control, what you can control. Let’s go!!!!

Of the many reasons I continuously fall in love with the practice of yoga it is the time spent and repetitions that I come back to again and again. One could easily set a fitness goal like running a particular pace in a race, or squatting a certain weight…. And then set out towards accomplishing that goal + achieving it many times over in comparison to the amount of time it may take to reach a postural goal in yoga.

The practice of yoga is often not linear. It requires reps and reps of preparation, and even then the body only can do what it can do. There are no promises, in even the most dedicated practice. No guarantees of input equaling an output. This fact alone can be off putting, and create doubts for many of even bothering to start practicing.

But for me, it is the reason I’m drawn to yoga. The lack of guarantee, the trying from my mat again and again, rep after rep, breath after breath… discovering a new complexity about myself and how I show up in the world, or how the muscles of the body + nervous system work together to achieve what is being asked. I’m always curious about what is next?! This is the essence of the practice and in a way becomes the whole goal to continually be so damn passionate about “what is next” in the body and mind that you don’t even realize the postures you master.

I teach from this perspective as well, ignited by passion I grow each client’s practice rep by rep in exactly what they individually need to grow stronger and face what will be next in their own practice.

Tell me in comments, are you intense like this when it comes to yoga, fitness or how you move your body? I want to know who else is same, same🙋‍♀️👯‍♀️

Let me overshare something juicy this morning about my clients… my ideal client has traits similar to me, at least when it comes to their practice.

1) they are relentless… they are doing things like 2 a day practices, or strength training + flexibility training, or having an entire inversion practice outside of their yoga practice.

2) they don’t make excuses, they just keep showing up… when something is challenging they embrace it

3) they are curious and turn inward to learn… they are seeking to uncover new layers + depth to shapes & body awareness by experimenting on their mat

4) they are dedicated to growth… this means even in the days they don’t want to or are too busy they practice anyhow

5) they are consistent, days add up to years, and my clients, like me, know how to play the long game.

We are simply not stretching in their sessions, we are building their yoga practice brick by brick. This is how I train my private clients, and how I have practiced for over 15 years. To reach your goals, it is a must. Stretching and minimums are nice, BUT if you want more from your practice, then ask more of yourself. If this aligns with you too, give it a 🩷 or DM if you are serious about working towards your yoga goals!

🍁🍂Fall Things!! Now that it is officially Fall some of my favorites from this time of year.

1. Long walks… The seasons are subtle in southern ca, but I love feeling the weather shift and the changes in the sunrise/sunset, + seeing all of the Halloween decorations going up in the neighborhood.

2. Get out the pumpkins! Olive and the dogs love to help me decorate the house for the season.

3. Something about cooler weather makes me want to bake and create in the kitchen…. Sourdough, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and homemade jam all made last week.

4. Farmers Markets, again walking around in cooler temps browsing vendors and fresh seasonal produce… gets me all inspired! Made a guava & strawberry jam from produce bought at the farmers market last Sunday.
