Your words tell your brain what to focus on.
When you say:
“I’m so overwhelmed. I can’t handle all of this.”
Your brain stays focused on the size of the problem.
But when you say:
“I’m feeling overwhelmed. I need to pause, prioritize, and create some structure.”
Your brain begins looking for the solution.
What needs my attention first?
What can wait?
What can I release?
What is the next small step?
You can practice this in other moments too.
Instead of:
“I don’t know what to do.”
Try:
“What information do I need to make the next decision?”
Instead of:
“I’ll never get everything done.”
Try:
“What actually needs to be done today?”
Instead of:
“Everything is too much.”
Try:
“What can I put down right now?”
This isn’t about pretending the problem doesn’t exist or forcing yourself to think positively. It’s about using your language to give your mind somewhere useful to go.
Sometimes the shift begins simply by changing the question. 🤍
