Can what we eat affect our mental health?

Emerging research is exploring the ketogenic diet as a potential complementary approach for bipolar disorder, particularly through its effects on brain energy, inflammation, and mood regulation.

While the early findings are promising, the ketogenic diet is not a replacement for medication or professional treatment. Major dietary changes should always be discussed with both a mental health provider and a medical professional.

In this reel, Kayla Beier explains what we know so far and why this area of research is gaining attention.

Emotional exhaustion doesn’t always look like falling apart.

Sometimes it looks like:
• Feeling tired no matter how much you sleep
• Getting irritated by things that normally wouldn’t bother you
• Feeling disconnected or “checked out”
• Struggling to concentrate or make simple decisions
• Avoiding texts, plans, or conversations because they feel like too much
• Losing motivation for things you usually enjoy
• Feeling like you’re constantly giving, but have nothing left to give
• Wanting to be alone, but not necessarily feeling better when you are

Emotional exhaustion can happen when your mind and body have been carrying stress for too long without enough opportunity to recover.

You don’t have to wait until you’re completely burned out to start caring for yourself.

Rest. Set boundaries. Ask for support. Make space for the things that help you feel like you again. 🤍

Men are often taught to keep it in, push through, and handle things on their own. But avoiding the conversation doesn’t make the weight disappear.

Creating space for men to express what they’re feeling, ask for help, and access care without judgment matters. Mental health isn’t weakness, and seeking support shouldn’t carry a stigma.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is say, “I’m not okay,” and let someone in.

You don’t have to wait until things feel overwhelming to ask for support.

Taking time to notice changes in your mood, energy, sleep, or stress levels can help you recognize when you may need extra care. Mental health support isn’t only for moments of crisis—it can also help you better understand yourself, build healthy coping skills, and feel more prepared for life’s challenges.

Back-to-School Reminder 🍎🧠

As backpacks get packed and routines begin, don’t forget to check in on your child’s mental and emotional well-being, too.

The transition back to school can bring excitement—but it can also bring anxiety, behavioral changes, sleep difficulties, and big emotions.

Now is a great time to schedule an appointment if your child is:
• Feeling anxious about school
• Struggling with emotional regulation
• Having trouble sleeping
• Experiencing changes in mood or behavior
• Facing social or friendship challenges
• Adjusting to a new school, teacher, or routine

Starting the school year with the right support can make all the difference. If you’ve been thinking about reaching out, this is your reminder that you don’t have to wait until things feel overwhelming.

Contact our office to schedule an appointment and help your child begin the school year feeling supported, confident, and ready to thrive.

Summer is often seen as a carefree season—but for many adults, it can increase anxiety.

Changes in routine, social pressure, travel, childcare demands, financial stress and the expectation to “make the most of summer” can feel overwhelming.

You’re not doing summer wrong if it doesn’t feel relaxing.

Give yourself permission to slow down, protect your routine and choose what genuinely feels manageable.

Teaching Kids Coping Skills Through Everyday Moments

Coping skills are not only learned during big emotional moments. They can be practiced in small, everyday situations.

When your child feels frustrated, disappointed, nervous, or overwhelmed, try helping them:
• Take a slow breath
• Name what they are feeling
• Ask for help
• Take a short break
• Move their body
• Talk through possible solutions
• Try again when they feel ready

The goal is not to eliminate difficult emotions. It is to help children feel confident that they can move through them with support.

School is out, and routines are officially shifting. ☀️

While summer often means later nights, slower mornings, and more flexibility, consistent sleep still plays an important role in your child’s mood, focus, emotional regulation, and overall mental health.

You do not have to follow the exact same schedule as the school year, but maintaining a predictable bedtime routine and a fairly consistent wake-up time can help children feel more regulated throughout the summer.

A few gentle ways to support healthy sleep:
• Keep bedtime and wake time within the same one-hour window
• Create a calming, screen-free wind-down routine
• Encourage movement and outdoor time during the day
• Make schedule changes gradually rather than all at once

Summer can be flexible without becoming completely unpredictable. A little consistency can go a long way.
