Digital pathology is a dynamic, image-based environment that enables the acquisition, management and interpretation of pathology information generated from a digitized glass slide. Digital pathology is rapidly gaining momentum as a proven and essential technology that is helping to reduce laboratory expenses, improve operational efficiency, enhance productivity, and improve treatment decisions and

patient care. It is used worldwide in drug development, reference lab, hospital, and academic medical center settings. Applications include education, research, image analysis, archival and retrieval, LIS/LIMS integration, secondary consultations, and virtual slide sharing.

📣 We want to hear your thoughts! Comment below ➡️

In this recent case study by Elbimar Esqueda Azpiroz (MD), a 76-year-old male, former smoker, presented to the emergency room with left-sided pleuritic chest pain and hyporexia with unquantified weight loss over approximately two weeks. He also reported a two-month history of progressive dyspnea, which had worsened over the preceding 15 days. He denied fever, cough, sputum production, or hemoptysis. A thoracoabdominal CT scan demonstrated a small, loculated left pleural effusion with multiple heterogeneous pleural-based implants involving the left hemithorax. There was associated partial atelectasis of the adjacent lung parenchyma although distinction from pleural disease was limited. A core needle biopsy of a pleural implant at the cardiophrenic angle was subsequently performed. Comment below!

📣 New on the DPA Blog: WHEN MULTI-PARAMETRIC MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING (MRI) CANNOT SEE: WHAT PATHOLOGY REVEALS ABOUT “INVISIBLE” PROSTATE CANCER

What happens when MRI can’t detect what pathology reveals?

Our latest blog, authored by Ramin Nateghi, explores the critical role pathology plays in uncovering “invisible” prostate cancer and why integrating imaging with pathology insights is essential for advancing diagnosis and patient care.

📣 We want to hear your thoughts! Comment below ➡️

In this recent case study by Damilare Ogunyemi, MD, A 32-year-old man presents with a slowly enlarging plaque on his upper back over 2 years, which has recently developed nodularity. The lesion measures 4.5 cm and is poorly circumscribed clinically. It is excised. Histology is shown below. Which of the following best explains the pathogenesis of this lesion?

A. Activating mutation in CTNNB1 leading to Wnt/β-catenin pathway activation
B. UV-induced TP53 mutation resulting in keratinocyte malignancy
C. COL1A1–PDGFB fusion leading to constitutive PDGFB signaling
D. KIT mutation leading to melanocytic proliferation
