Summer is full of outdoor play, travel, and busy schedules but a few simple habits can help keep kids safe, healthy, and thriving all season long ☀️

Our Family Doctors are sharing important reminders for families to help support safety, rest, and balance during the summer months.

➡️ WATER SAFETY: Assign a designated "Water Watcher" whose only job is to monitor the water without distractions. Drowning often happens silently and quickly, so constant visual contact is crucial.

➡️ HELMET FIT: Ensure helmets fit correctly: they should sit level on the head (two finger-widths above the eyebrows) and the chin strap should be snug. A poorly fitted helmet significantly reduces its protection in a fall.

➡️ PEST PREVENTION: Use a repellent containing 20-30% DEET or Picaridin on skin and clothing. If you find an attached tick, use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp it closest to the skin as possible and pull upward with steady, even pressure to remove it entirely.

➡️ SLEEP HYGIENE: While bedtime might shift a little later in summer, try to maintain a consistent wake-up time. Keeping the internal clock regulated prevents "social jet lag" and makes the eventual transition back to school in the fall much easier.

➡️ ACTIVITY: Don’t be afraid to let your children "embrace boredom." Unstructured downtime is vital for mental health, encourages creativity, and helps children learn to self-regulate their emotions.

Small habits can make a big difference in keeping kids safe and healthy all summer long.

Healthy movement is essential for long-term wellness! The Movement Assessment Exam provides a detailed, hands-on look at your body’s strength, balance, control, and mobility. It goes beyond routine checkups to show how your body functions and where improvements can help prevent future problems.

This assessment helps you establish a baseline, track progress, and take proactive steps to reduce injury risk and maintain an active, independent life. Prioritizing your movement today supports your health for years to come.

As an optional specialized addition to your care, there is a nominal fee ($200) associated with this assessment, invoiced at the time of service.

Ask your physician to learn more, and our team at Priority Physicians will make scheduling easy!

Did you know?
InBody Body Composition Analysis is included in your membership!

Go beyond the scale with a quick, non-invasive test that breaks down your body into muscle, fat, and water for a clearer picture of your health.

Included in your annual exam, with optional nurse visits available between exams to help track progress as you work toward your fitness, nutrition, or recovery goals. We recommend speaking with your doctor about the frequency of additional InBodies based on your personal health and wellness goals.

Please note: InBody visits outside of the annual exam do not include time with the physician unless arranged otherwise.

Can your diet impact how you age?

According to our very own, Dr. Chad O'Nan, the answer is yes. Balanced nutrition, adequate protein, and gut health all play an important role in supporting longevity and overall wellness.

It’s about building habits that fuel your body for the long run.

May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month ☀️

As we move into the summer months, it’s more important than ever to protect your skin from harmful UV exposure. UV radiation is a major risk factor for skin cancer, but daily sunscreen use is one of the simplest ways to help reduce that risk.

Make sunscreen part of your routine, even on cloudy days. Reapply regularly, seek shade when you can, and wear protective clothing when spending extended time outdoors.

If you notice any changes in your skin, such as new spots or moles that look different, don’t wait to get it checked. Talking with your physician early is an important step in protecting your long-term health.

Wear your sunscreen, stay aware, and take care of your skin all season long!
