I (Kourtney, IBP’s content creator👋🏼) made this cup of coffee this afternoon.
It was my second coffee of the day and much needed after a fun morning of pottery painting and story time with my kids. I remember taking two or three sips before I finally sat down to enjoy a quiet moment in my sunroom while my kids played.
Then, about two minutes later, my son fell and broke his arm.
I knew immediately by his cry that something wasn’t right. I ran over to him, figured out what happened, called his dad, and the next thing I knew, we were in the car headed to urgent care.
The coffee stayed on the counter where I put it after jumping up in a panic.
Hours later, after urgent care, X-rays, tears, a cast, and finally making it back home…it was still sitting there. In the exact same spot. Now cold.
When I saw it, my first thought was…”and that’s motherhood right there.” 🥺
Not because I wanted the coffee, but because motherhood is full of so many moments JUST like this!
You finally sit down and someone needs you.
You warm up your meal and someone cries.
You make plans and life has other ideas.
You get some “me time” and spend the whole time missing your kids.
Your coffee gets cold. Your to do list has to wait. Your own needs quietly move to the bottom of the list.
Through the chaos, the hard days, the overwhelming days, and even the beautiful ones, I try to remind myself that one day, the coffee won’t be interrupted, the house will be quiet, and motherhood will start to feel easier.
And while I know I’ll enjoy a hot cup of coffee then…I also know I’ll miss the reason it kept getting cold. ❤️🩹
To every mama sipping cold coffee, reheating the same meal three times, or putting yourself last because someone else needs you…I SEE YOU! We see you.
You’re doing an amazing job.
