Could your aluminum-free deodorant actually be MORE irritating to your skin? 👀

Aluminum gets a bad reputation, but it isn’t necessarily the ingredient dermatologists worry about most when it comes to underarm irritation.

Many aluminum-free deodorants rely on ingredients like baking soda, fragrance and essential oils to control odor, and these can trigger irritant or allergic contact dermatitis in some people.

So if you switched to a “natural” or aluminum-free deodorant for your skin, check the ingredient list. Sometimes the alternative can be more irritating than the ingredient you were trying to avoid.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to take your hair loss seriously… this is it. 🤍

August is National Hair Loss Awareness Month, and there’s one message I want everyone to hear: don’t wait.

If you’ve noticed increased shedding, a widening part, a thinner ponytail, or more scalp showing, the sooner you get a diagnosis, the more treatment options we have.

As a board-certified dermatologist dedicated to hair loss diagnosis and treatment, I help patients find the why behind their hair loss and create personalized, evidence-based treatment plans.

Your hair deserves answers, not guesswork.

Before you buy another hair growth product, ask yourself one question:

Do I actually know why I’m losing my hair?

As a board-certified dermatologist, one of the biggest mistakes I see is people spending hundreds, sometimes thousands, of dollars on viral products before getting the right diagnosis.

Hair loss isn’t one condition. Female pattern hair loss, telogen effluvium, alopecia areata, scarring alopecias, and other causes can all require very different treatments.

In this video, I cover the three biggest mistakes I see:
✔️ Self-diagnosing
✔️ Chasing viral products instead of evidence-based treatments
✔️ Giving up before treatments have enough time to work

The goal isn’t to buy more products. It’s to get the right diagnosis and start treatments that are supported by evidence and tailored to your specific type of hair loss.

Have you ever fallen into one of these traps? Let me know in the comments.

Hearing the word “alopecia” can be scary, but it’s actually just the medical term for hair loss.

There are many different types of alopecia, and each has its own causes, treatments, and prognosis. The most common type is male or female pattern hair loss, which typically progresses very slowly over many years and usually does not lead to complete baldness.

The most important step isn’t just knowing you have alopecia. It’s figuring out which type you have so we can create the right treatment plan.

Not all hair loss is the same, and neither is the treatment.

What hair loss question should I answer next?

After months of planning, we were finally about to board our 14-hour flight... passport in hand... and then the hospital calls. Anyone else married to someone who never really clocks out?

Hair loss is like solving a mystery. Every clue matters. 🔎

My comprehensive hair loss visits are typically about an hour because an accurate diagnosis takes time.

During your visit, we put the clues together with a detailed medical history, scalp examination, trichoscopy, a hair pull test, standardized clinical photography, and targeted laboratory testing when needed. In select cases, a scalp biopsy may also be recommended to help confirm the diagnosis.

Hair loss isn’t one condition. It’s dozens of different diagnoses that can look almost identical but require completely different treatments.

If you’re coming in for a hair loss evaluation, knowing when the shedding or thinning started, bringing your medication and supplement list, sharing any recent illnesses, surgeries, pregnancies, significant weight changes, or major stressors, knowing your family history, and bringing any recent lab work can all help us solve the puzzle.

The better the clues, the more accurate the diagnosis.

Save this before your next hair loss visit, and follow for evidence based hair loss education.

🚨 The FDA just approved the first new sunscreen filter since 1999!

A few weeks ago, I was in Italy doing what dermatologists do best… browsing the sunscreen aisle. 🇮🇹☀️

European sunscreens have long had access to newer filters that provide excellent UVA protection, helping protect against brown spots, melasma, and photoaging while remaining highly stable in the sun.

Now one of the most anticipated filters, Tinosorb S (Bemotrizinol), is finally approved in the U.S.

After seeing these sunscreens everywhere in Italy, it’s exciting to watch America finally get out of the 1990s and start catching up!

Would you try it?
