Scar healing is a process. Trust it. 👏

When you hear circumferential tummy tuck, one of the first questions you may have is: What will the scar look like?

This patient underwent a circumferential abdominoplasty with Dr. John Aker, which means the incision extends all the way around the body. Careful scar placement matters. Dr. Aker places the incision as low as possible, including across the backside, with the goal of keeping it concealed beneath most underwear and swimwear once healed.

But placement is only part of the story. Look at how much this scar changes in just 3 months.

At 7 days, the incision is fresh, red and swollen. As the weeks pass, you can see it begin to settle, flatten and fade. And at 3 months? It’s still healing. Scar maturation can continue for a year or longer.

This is why we tell our patients not to judge a scar by those first few weeks. The early scar is not the final scar.

We have some exciting news to share. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Mattie Rosi-Schumacher to My Plastic Surgery Group!

Dr. Rosi-Schumacher is a facial plastic surgeon specializing exclusively in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face and neck, with particular expertise in facial rejuvenation and rhinoplasty.

Her training is extensive. After completing a five-year residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University at Buffalo, Dr. Rosi-Schumacher went on to complete a highly competitive, one-year fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Miami. There, she received advanced training in facial aesthetic surgery, including deep plane facelift, neck lift and rhinoplasty.

Beyond her surgical training, Dr. Rosi-Schumacher has been nationally recognized for her research and academic work in facial plastic surgery. Just as important to us, she brings a thoughtful, patient-centered approach to her work. Her goal is to create results that are elegant, individualized and naturally harmonious while making sure her patients feel heard and supported throughout the process.
