The Children's TherAplay Foundation

The Children's TherAplay Foundation Children's TherAplay provides physical, occupational & speech therapy for children with disabilities. The list goes on.

At Children's TherAplay, licensed therapists provide children with disabilities physical, occupational, and speech therapy which uses the movement of a horse as a tool to accelerate physical, emotional, and behavioral development. For over 20 years, TherAplay has been treating kids 18 months to 13 years with a variety of diagnosis and developmental delays and we have grown to become the largest fa

cility specializing in hippotherapy in the country. The horse can provide a therapeutic input that cannot be replicated in any other type of therapy. These inputs have allowed our clients to see transformational outcomes, such as children with mobility limitations taking first steps, non-verbal children saying their first words, children learning to feed themselves independently, and dress and care for themselves more independently.

Funding for projects like this help make our facility more accessible to everyone! Now all our friends on wheels can visit the horses more easily 🐴 We are grateful to Carmel Rotary Club for making that possible 👏

Rotary Club of Camel provides Community Service Grants

Recently, The Children's TherAplay's Development Manager, Katie Stratman, shared with the club how the recent grant helped fund a wide walkway from the main building to the barn, making it much easier and smoother to transport children using walkers and wheelchairs to where the hippotherapy takes place.

It's with a heavy heart we share that our sweet therapy horse, Barbie, passed away last night. After a bad colic episode, members of our dedicated barn staff monitored her through the night and made sure she recieved great care and was surrounded by loved ones.

Barbie was a beloved part of our herd! As an ex-barrel racer, Barbie brought her spirit into everything she did. Barbie provided a lot of movement with her speedy gait and was incredibly in tune with the energy of those around her and responded to people with an awareness that made her a particularly special girl during therapy sessions. She was spunky, gentle, silly, and loving all at the same, and made her way into many kiddos and staff member's hearts. We will miss Barbie dearly 💜

Introducing our new Director of Development - Lily!

As the new Director of Development for The Children's TherAplay Foundation, Inc., Lily brings more than four years of nonprofit experience to the barn. During her time in the nonprofit sector, Lily has promoted the well-being and adoption of animals at The Humane Society for Hamilton County and helped fundraise for accessible arts programs at Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts. Before the nonprofit realm stole her heart, she specialized in public relations and media as a television journalist at her hometown's small market news station. This is all to say Lily has spent plenty of time connecting people, stories, and causes and is thrilled to now put those skills to work at TherAplay.

A lifelong believer in the power of a good story, Lily is passionate about building meaningful relationships and helping others discover the difference they can make through philanthropy.

When she isn't championing TherAplay's mission, Lily can be found baking (sometimes burning) something entirely too sweet, experimenting with Italian pasta recipes, reading several books at once (apparently choosing one is too difficult), or snuggling with her cats, Cecil and Finn. She firmly believes life is better with loving animals, good food, and a great book, ideally all at the same time.

⭐Volunteer Spotlight⭐

Meet Swathi:
Back in 2018, Carmel Kiwanis chapter partnered with TherAplay to 'buy a volunteer slot' that Swathi and her husband started to share, and they never stopped sidewalking! Currently, she is the Owner and Physician Assistant at a Functional Medicine Clinic, Be Well Family Care. You may be surprised to know that Swathi was born in India and moved to America when she was almost 8, so English is not her native language!

In her free time, Swathi enjoys volunteering at TherAplay, as well as spending time with family, reading, dancing, and playing board games. The kids, the staff, and, of course, the horses keep Swathi coming back time and time again. She loves having 2 hours every week to be present in a space filled with "hope, healing, and horses."

⭐"There was a young kid I walked with every week — nonverbal, used a wheelchair, and quite rigid in her movements. The first time she walked down that hallway on her own — that was a pretty special moment for me. It's moments like that — most small, but some life changing — that remind you what this work is really about. Watching these kids find ways to communicate, to connect with their families and the world around them, never gets old."⭐
