Ever wake up and realize you can barely turn your head without pain? 🙋♀️
That was me Wednesday morning! I could barely turn my head to the left without pain, and my first thought was, “Well, I’m doomed.” 😅 As a massage therapist, I immediately thought about how good a massage and some heat would feel!
Here’s what I did:
✨ Gentle stretches and neck rotations, staying within a comfortable range and NOT forcing movement into pain.
✨ Went for a walk later that day.
✨ Used my Frequense Relieve Cream.
✨ That night, my husband massaged my traps and neck on both sides.
✨ Adjusted my pillow to better support the side of my neck that was bothering me.
Thursday, I took a complete rest day and gave my body a break. The next morning, I felt IMMENSELY better! By Friday, the pain was gone, and I was left with just some stiffness. I was back to walking yesterday, too! 🙌
But here’s the important reminder I want to share: Massage can absolutely be a helpful tool for relaxation and managing muscle tension, but there’s a time and a place for it 🩵
My first instinct was to think about getting a massage, but I also knew I needed to listen to my body, avoid pushing through pain, and give myself time to recover. Massage isn’t always the first step, and more pressure isn’t always better. When pain is acute, severe, or unexplained, it’s important to know when to hold off and seek appropriate medical guidance.
Sometimes, gentle movement, comfortable support, rest, and a little patience are what your body needs most.
The takeaway? You don’t always have to push through, and you don’t have to fix everything in one day. Listen to your body, give it some grace, and remember that massage is one tool in your wellness toolbox, not the only one 🫶
Have you ever woken up with a stiff neck that completely changed your plans for the day? Tell me I’m not the only one! 🫠👇
