Tired of feeling like an old man when you get off the sofa?

You don't feel old because of your age. You feel old because you stopped moving your body.

Try these 3 stretches. You can do all of them right on your couch.

1. Seated forward fold
Sit on the edge of the sofa. Feet out wide. Breathe in, exhale, and fold over. Let gravity pull you down. Hold 20 to 30 seconds. Do it 3 or 4 times. Your lower back will feel great.

2. Piriformis stretch
This one gets your hips. Tight hips can cause lower back pain. Warning, this one is hard. Put a pillow under you so your hips sit higher. Ankle on the knee, sit up tall, and push the knee down. Just getting there might be enough.

3. Hamstring stretch
Still on the sofa, pillow under your hips. Breathe in, exhale, and let gravity pull you down. Reach for your toes. Hold 60 seconds.

The key is your breathing. Relax and breathe into it and you will get deeper every time.

Do these and you will feel better. You will get out of pain. You won't be so sore. And you won't move and look like an old man.

I'm 40. I don't plan on moving like an old man anytime soon.

Most dads don't lose the ability to play with their kids overnight. It happens slowly, one stiff morning at a time.

Three stretches to stay the fun and active dad:

1. Standing forward fold
Bend over, reach down, breathe in through your nose, exhale and let gravity pull you deeper. Hold 60 to 90 seconds. Hits your lower back and hamstrings.

2. Standing quad stretch
Grab your foot, pull back, feel it in the quad and hip. Hold onto something if you need to. Balance is a skill, and at 40, 50, 60 it disappears fast if you never train it. Hold 20 to 30 seconds each side.

3. Deep squat hold
This one will humble you. Sitting in a squat tells you exactly where your mobility is hiding. Ankles, toes, hips. It's the difference between getting off the floor easy and grunting your way up.

Being able to get down and back up is not a gym thing. It's a dad thing.

Start now so you don't end up like this guy.

Me and Chantelle have been working out together for over 20 years.

That's not new.

What was new this month was the intention.

At the start of August we sat down and said 3 to 4 workouts a week together.

Because we want to spend time with each other and because we know the benefits it brings to our relationship and family.

Being married with kids, a business, and a schedule that never slows down.

If we wasn't intentional about our time together, something else would take it.

The calendar is always full and busy. Kids to school. After school activities. What's for dinner. Bed time can get crazy.

That's why we plan and schedule our workouts ahead: so that we can spend quality time together while working on our health and fitness at the same time

20-45 minutes is all we need to get in a good workout. Sweating, pushing each other, laughing at each other, and doing something hard together.

And our girls got to watch it too.

That's the part that really feels good to me as a father.

Because one day my daughters are going to pick somebody.

And what they pick is going to be based on what they saw in this house.

They're watching how we workout together, have fun together and encourage, support and love each other.

Kids learn more from what we do than what we say.

We'll keep setting relationship goals. We'll keep training together. Because of what it does for our stress, our parenting, our sleep, and how we look, feel and move.

All of it matters.

And it doesn't have to look like ours.

Walks around the neighborhood. Bike rides with the kids. Catch in the yard. Softball. A run together. Pickleball. Hiking

Just examples. Different ways to be active, get quality time, and be a family that stays fit and active.

Whatever is fun for you.

I used to think mobility was what you did when you got hurt.

That was the whole belief. Train hard, push through, and if something starts hurting, then you deal with it.

That's how I trained for years.

College ball, then years of coaching in a CrossFit gym, chasing PR's, competing and ignoring every warning sign my body was throwing at me.

Then I spent years as a Physical Therapist Assistant watching guys my age come through the clinic.

And here's what got me. Almost none of them got hurt doing something crazy. They got hurt getting out of a truck. Picking up a laundry basket. Playing with their kid in the yard. Throwing a baseball...

That's when it hit me.

It's not because of age, its because they stopped exercising and lost their mobility.

Nobody gets a warning when that starts. There's no day where your body tells you hey, that was the last time you get down on the floor without thinking about it. It just quietly gets harder. The hips tighten. The knee starts talking. You start choosing the chair.

Then your kid asks you to come play and you say in a minute.

And a minute becomes never.

So here's the thing most guys over 40 never get told.

Mobility is cheap right now. Ten minutes a day cheap. No gym, no equipment, no membership.

But every year you skip it the price goes up, and eventually you're paying with the stuff money can't buy back. Wrestling on the carpet. Getting up off the ground without using your hands. Being the dad who still plays instead of the dad who watches.

I'm not the strongest I've ever been. I'm the most capable I've ever been.

That trade was the best one I ever made.

3 foods that need to be in your kitchen if you want to drop 20 pounds in the next 90 days.

These are staples in my client meal plans. Same ones that helped Jesse drop 40 pounds and stop getting winded tying his shoes.

1. Eggs

6g protein each. Eat 5 in the morning and you're already at 30g before the day starts.

Boil a batch. Grab and go. Stay full so you skip the office donut.

2. 90/10 Ground Beef

8 to 10 ounces gets you 55 to 70g of protein. High protein, lower calorie, exactly what you need to protect muscle over 40.

Red meat scares a lot of guys. For men over 40 it's one of the best tools you have.

3. Sweet Potatoes

Clean complex carbs that help your muscles recover.

Energy for your workout. Energy left over when you walk in the door at home.

That's how you fuel a 40 year old body to burn fat and build muscle.

If you're a Man over 40 who's tired of guessing, comment "MEAL PLAN" and I'll send you my meal plan template with macros and a shopping list.

Don't overcomplicate it. Keep it simple.

If you've never trained with a steel mace, start with these.

1. Curls
Palms up, hammer grip, reverse grip. Same tool, three angles, easy on the elbows.

2. Single arm press
It's 15 pounds. Slow it down, go 20 to 30 reps, and your shoulder will let you know. The offset press is the sneaky one. Most of the weight sits out on the end, so your arm has to fight to hold it.

3. Swings
Move it around your body. Twist, turn, breathe. Your shoulders and core get worked without a single machine.

This is a stress reliever too. Get out in the grass, put on music or don't, and just swing it.

You'll feel better. You'll move better. You'll look better.

Save this one for your next arm day.

Macros sound complicated. They're not.
Comment "PLAN" and I'll reach out to see if I can help.

Everything you eat is made of three things.
Protein, fats, carbs.

Protein builds and repairs you. It's what keeps your muscle while you drop fat.

Fats run your hormones. Cut them too low and you feel like garbage.

Carbs are fuel. That's it. Fuel for the work you're actually doing.

That's macros. Three buckets.

You've been avoiding it because somebody made it sound like a math class.

Here's the only thing I want you to do with it today.

Eat your protein first at every meal.

You'll be fuller. You'll hold your muscle. And you'll stop grazing at nine at night.

No counting required to start.

Comment "PLAN" and I'll reach out to see if I can help.
