As the school year starts ramping up it is important to remember to take care of yourself. While the tips are for teens, they are handy for everyone to take some time to focus on your mental health and physical health.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental Health care is as important as physical health care. During this month, I would encourage everyone to take an assessment of your mental health. This includes thinking about your anxiety level, are you enjoying the small things in life or have you been struggling with finding the joy in your life.

If you find that you are having more down days than happy days, it might be time to give your mental health some attention.

Some ways to boost your mental health include:
- Get regular exercise. Just 30 minutes of walking every day can boost your mood and improve your health.
- Try a relaxing activity. Explore relaxation or wellness programs or apps, which may incorporate meditation or muscle relaxation.
- Practice gratitude. Remind yourself daily of things you are grateful for. Be specific. Write them down or meditate on them.
- Focus on positivity. Identify and challenge your negative and unhelpful thoughts. Celebrate positive thoughts.

The Carrington Chamber & EDC recently held a ribbon cutting at Open Prairie Health at 318 Hwy 281 N (office located within Retzlaff Seed & Supply building). Ambassadors recognized and congratulated Callie Krause on the opening of her new mental health clinic.
She has a 10 year history of working in psychiatric care and has graduated with a certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner as well as a Doctorate in Nursing and certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
