Don’t let poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac ruin your summer. 🌿 Use these helpful tips to keep the outdoors fun, not itchy:

🔎 Identify — Poison ivy has three smooth-edged leaves and often grows as a vine. Poison oak has three rounded, lobed leaves (like oak leaves). Poison sumac has 7–13 leaflets and grows as a tall shrub or tree.

🛑 Prevent — Avoid unknown plants. Wear long sleeves and gloves when hiking or working in wooded areas. Wash your skin and clothes as soon as possible after exposure.

💊 Treat — Rinse the affected area with soap and water. Use cool compresses, calamine lotion or hydrocortisone to ease itching.

🚨 Visit — If the rash is spreading, severe or located near your face or eyes, our talented providers at Tanner Urgent Care can help. If you have any trouble breathing, call 911.

All Tanner Urgent Care locations, including Tanner Urgent Care for Kids, will be closed Sunday, April 5, in observance of the Easter holiday. Normal hours will resume Monday, April 6.

Emergency departments at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, East Alabama and Villa Rica, as well as Higgins General Hospital, remain open 24/7 for care.
