🐾💙 Community Supporting Community 💙🐾

On Friday, June 5, join us by stopping by Buzzinga to support Tatum in obtaining Goose, a diabetic service dog who will provide an added layer of safety, independence, and peace of mind.

For individuals living with diabetes, service dogs can play a vital role by recognizing changes that may otherwise go unnoticed, helping prevent emergencies before they occur. Goose represents more than a companion—he represents support, security, and enhanced well-being.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and help make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. We hope you’ll stop by, show your support, and help make Goose’s journey home with Tatum possible!

🐾💙

Caffeine for a Cause! Pay what you want for your drink!

This is Tatum! She is a 4 year old thoughtful, funny, & bright young lady. Tatum loves spending time with her family & friends, dancing, & of course visiting Buzzinga for her signature sugar free Italian soda!
Tatum has an autoimmune disease called type 1 diabetes. That means her pancreas doesn’t produce insulin. This doesn’t hold her back from living her best life! She wears an insulin pump and a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) that alerts her mom & dad of any changes in her blood sugar levels.
While Tatum’s pump is an asset in keeping her healthy, having a blood sugar level that is too low or too high can quickly become an emergency situation. That’s where Goose comes in!
A cavapoo/golden doodle puppy, Goose was extensively tested to ensure his compatibility & is now completing rigorous training in Colorado to become an official Diabetic Alert Dog. Goose’s super power is his nose; he will be able to detect any changes in Tatum’s blood sugar levels before her continuous glucose monitor does! That’s a BIG deal!!
But, a dog as highly skilled as Goose, doesn’t come cheap. Buzzinga wants to help & give our amazing customers an opportunity as well! Come in Friday, June 5th and pay what you can. You read that right. Give us $2 or $200 for your latte.
All proceeds go towards Goose and Tatum's expenses.

🏥🩺 ER Critical Skill Training Day 🩺🏥

Excellence in emergency care doesn’t happen by chance—it happens through training.

Today, our Emergency Department team participated in hands-on critical skill training designed to prepare for high-acuity, low-frequency events. Physicians focused on advanced and invasive procedures, while nurses and paramedics strengthened essential emergency care skills that directly impact patient outcomes when seconds matter most.

These training opportunities build confidence, enhance teamwork, and ensure our staff remain prepared to provide exceptional care during the most critical moments. 💙

Special Thank You to Dr. McLendon for leading physician training and KY 11 crew for all your assistance!

📚 Training Today. Saving Lives Tomorrow.
💪 Stronger Skills. Better Outcomes.

We are CCMH Wednesday!

We’re excited to welcome Kaylyn to the Emergency Department team!

Kaylyn recently joined us as an Emergency Department Registrar and has already expanded her role by cross-training as an ED Tech. Her willingness to learn and jump in wherever needed makes her a valuable addition to our team.

When she’s not at the hospital, you’ll likely find her cheering on her son at baseball games ⚾ or spending time outdoors fishing 🎣 and making memories with family.

We’re excited to have Kaylyn as part of the CCMH Emergency Department family. Be sure to say hello and help us give her a warm welcome! ❤️

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we live each day — freedoms that allow us to serve our community, care for others, and stand beside patients and families during their most difficult moments.

This Memorial Day, from all of us in the Carroll County Memorial Hospital Emergency Department, we extend our deepest gratitude to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to the families who carry their legacy forward.

Children aren’t just small adults — they require specialized emergency care, equipment, medications, and protocols designed specifically for them. That’s why CCMH Emergency Department is proud to participate in the National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP).

The NPRP is a nationwide initiative focused on improving how emergency departments care for ill and injured children. Through this project, hospitals evaluate everything from pediatric equipment and medication safety to staff training, policies, triage tools, and emergency protocols to ensure children receive the highest quality care possible — close to home.

Studies have shown that emergency departments with high pediatric readiness scores have significantly lower mortality rates in critically ill and injured children. Participation helps identify gaps, strengthen preparedness, and improve outcomes for pediatric patients when every second matters.

For rural healthcare facilities, this is especially important. Many children receive emergency care in community emergency departments like ours, making readiness essential for our families and communities.

Every child. Every day. Prepared when it matters most. 🧸🚑💙

Before EMS Week came to a close, we decided to change things up a bit and visit them at their station — in their element. 🚑🏥

We packed a vehicle full of staff and snacks 🍪🥤 and hit the road 🛣️ to personally thank the crews who are always there for our Emergency Department and our community. ❤️

Our local EMS teams continuously show up — bringing in patients, assisting with transfers, helping during critical situations, and stepping in whenever needed. 🚨 This week, we wanted to show up for them.

Strong relationships between EMS and the Emergency Department go far beyond the ambulance bay doors. 🤝 Communication, teamwork, and mutual support directly improve patient care and outcomes for the communities we serve.

In rural healthcare, partnerships like these are invaluable, and we’re proud to work alongside such dedicated EMS professionals every single day. 🚑❤️

🚑 EMS Week – Improving Outcomes Together

In rural healthcare, strong relationships between EMS and the Emergency Department are essential — and Carroll County EMS is an incredible example of that partnership in action.

Whether assisting at the bedside, providing ALS transport, or helping facilitate BLS transfers alongside one of our ER nurses, their crews are always willing to step in and help wherever needed. Their teamwork, collaboration, and dedication to patient care never go unnoticed.

Rural healthcare depends on people working together, supporting one another, and doing whatever it takes to provide the best care possible for our community. We are incredibly appreciative of the relationship we share with Carroll County EMS and grateful for the professionalism and partnership they bring every day.

Thank you for standing beside us and continuing to help improve outcomes for the patients we serve. 💙

🚨 What Your Emergency Department Is Doing for You 🚨

Emergency department operations involve far more than treating patients when they walk through our doors. Behind the scenes, we are continuously working to strengthen the care we provide to our community.

At Carroll County Memorial Hospital Emergency Department, that means:

🩺 Developing and updating protocols to align with nationally recognized standards of emergency care
📚 Expanding staff education, training, and hands-on skills to prepare for high-risk and time-critical emergencies
💊 Ensuring emergency medications, supplies, and critical equipment are readily available when seconds matter
🤝 Strengthening teamwork, communication, and emergency response processes across departments
🚑 Preparing for everything from everyday illnesses to life-threatening emergencies and trauma situations

Rural emergency medicine requires constant preparation, adaptability, and commitment. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, it is all done with one goal in mind — providing safe, timely, and effective care when our community needs it most.

Our commitment is not only to be available when emergencies happen, but to continually earn the trust and confidence of our community as a dependable source of emergency care.

Healthcare is always evolving, and so are we — because being prepared before the emergency happens matters.
