Small Moments, BIG Connections!

Years ago, I was working with a little boy that wasn’t speaking with words. He was using a lot of wonderful sounds and what sounded like babble. He loved to explore the room around him without really engaging with me.

Our session started out on a swing set. As soon as I pushed the swing, his excitement and his sound use took off.

My response was simple but intentional. I imitated exactly his movements and sounds. And I will never forget his response.

His sweet little face snapped back to look at mine and we locked eyes.
I had acknowledged his sounds as communication, and we CONNECTED. We began a beautiful dance of making noises and imitating each other, turn-taking in a conversation without words.

Language therapy is so much more than speech and words! It starts with connection to others!

Sensory Processing Disorder 🚫 equal Autism

It is a misconception that people with sensory integration differences must be Autistic. But according to Psychology Today, recent studies suggest that between 90% and 95% of people on the autism spectrum have sensory processing differences, but the reverse does not hold true.

It is critical to keep in mind an Autism diagnosis is complex and detailed. Reach out to a Speech Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, or Developmental Pediatrician to discuss any questions you have for your child.
